Top 13 Camping Hacks that ACTUALLY work

Video Overview & Insights

13 Camping Hacks, Tips, and Tricks for everyone who spends time in the outdoors! And the best part - they don't cost anything!

REVISION TO #2 - HEADLAMP BATTERY HACK
Many comments indicate this is not an ideal hack and may still drain the battery.
This should be corrected by putting a small piece of tape or plastic between the terminals so they don't touch.

(Very sorry - I wish I could correct it on screen. In the headlamps I've used, the terminals don't touch when you flip the battery around, but this isn't the case for all, as the comments have told me)

00:00 Camping Hack 1 - Red Toggle

Все толково и понятно. !

— @АлександрСметанин-л6й

00:32 Camping Hack 2 - Headlamp Battery

01:05 Camping Hack 3 - Double Rock

Better than a red toggle, you put a first aid patch on the pocket of the bag. You might know what a red toggle means, but the walker who's trying to save your life when you're out cold might not. You can even get material tags with a keyring attachment that can be put on a zip.

01:36 Camping Hack 4 - High Point

02:42 Camping Hack 5 - Drip Line

I have an unconventional... but very much "emergency" hack for women only. Read below.

...

...
If youve forgotten to pack pads or have no acess to restock for supplies... using campfire ash can really save you. Its hygenic, antimicrobial, and absorbant and will hide odor.

Do NOT have it directly touch your skin. Use a towel or folded over shirt. Stuff it with some cold ash and charcoal and you'll get an emergency pad that can hold you over.

05:15 Camping Hack 9 - Sharpen a Blade

Ash from camp fire is great to clean greasy utensils as well

06:04 Camping Hack 10 - Bundle Split

06:33 Camping Hack 11 - Split a Log Without an Axe

It's funny how many camping hack videos are just very obvious things or just tips compiled from other youtube videos. This is not one of those.

07:08 Camping Hack 12 - Camp Candles

07:52 Camping Hack 13 - Clean Camp Dishes

Don't put batteries backwards, it is not saf

The plants from Saponaria genus, family of Caryophyllaceae can give real thick foam, when rubbed with water. Used to wash hands with it while playing by the river during childhood

Ahh! Please don't wash and rinse dirty dishes into a water source! Take water away from the source at least 10' or more. And if possible bury waste water like that in a pre-dug hole and fill in as the residual food stuff attracts all manner of critters.

Love it but please don't do the grease thing. FOG is not good for waterways or ponds. As more people come around and do the same, dissolved oxygen will be eaten by the little bugs that would find FOG as food. In the end, that beautiful water body will be dead.

This should be titled basic dude stuff. If you want the best tip here you go. Buy 4 cheap solar blankets. Put them on the outside of your tent with tape or even gum works. When you wake up your tent wont be nearly as hot.

I scrub the campfire grate in the sand/dirt to somewhat clean it off before packing it into the holder/cover, which can be made of cardboard and masking tape. Also to fix holes in a tarp, I have always used a quality Masking Tape instead of Duct Tape!

Thank you,but couldnt get past number 2...never reverse any batteries in any thing. Carry them seperate, cut a guitar pick down&slide between spring&battery, etc

Very good tips. Your taught line knot is also known as a "truckers hitch." Love the red cord 1st aid kit tip. That's about the only one I haven't used over time. Good video!

Your taut-line is a granny knot...
Both ends should come out the same side of the wrappings, like a square knot...

Wow, it’s rare that I actually learn more than one new trick in any of these videos so to have gotten four or five is amazing. The splitting the wood without an ax and the fat wood torches are pretty awesome as well as the natural patches.
