Train's 2001 hit "Drops of Jupiter (Tell Me)" is a deeply personal tribute written by lead singer Pat Monahan to his late mother, who had recently passed away from cancer. While the foundation of the song is about his mother's transcendence and life after death, Monahan chose to turn it into a whimsical, romantic narrative. This allowed listeners to connect with the track on a broader, more relatable level. The narrator is speaking to a woman who has returned from a "soul vacation"—an adventure out "in space" finding herself—and is now reintegrating into her earthly life.
