How to you plan to travel during your healthy years combined with planning and affording expensive assisted living communities during your 80+ years?

Newbie to this channel and travel . I think I have found my tribe . Love what you are doing . At 57 I started my glide to retirement at 60. I started a work 10 weeks and travel 2 weeks roster. Hitting the high cost countries while still working. Doing my third 2 weeks in October. During retirement I have budgeted for $50k for 3 months travel a year . But listening to your numbers I could stretch this to 6 months or further.

How would I do this for solo traveler?

Slow travel isn't for everyone, but there's definitely something to be said about embracing the journey and stretching those dollars. I've always believed that being intentional about your experiences makes travel way more fulfilling than just ticking boxes. Great video!

At 6:24 you denote the 72,000 per year would be about $200 per day for a couple. So just trying to understand if each figure is for 2 people. So $36k a person for the $72k option. Thanks so much!

Here as a 28 year old guy who seems to be confused at the 27 year old person they went to school with and is seemingly in every other country every other month 😢 I just feel trapped in my life of work and making ends meet even when I try to do multiple sources of income, I can’t grasp at how my friend just is able to travel everywhere… me and most the ppl I went to school with are in the same boat as me and most Americans. Working and saving up, but I want to experience more, so I started looking up videos on cost and it just shows that I need alot of money to just even be able to escape my everyday life…

Thanks for the video, gives us great ideas, my wife and i are heading out in 16 months with a current planned budget of $50k per year. Plan to slow travel.

What about about traveling just one country per year...how much will that cost.? Spain or Portugal....maybe Italy

Pragmatic and reasonable. You surprised me, however, by suggesting trains over flights for some travel. I live in Switzerland and travel extensively by train: to London, to Vienna, to Amsterdam, to Palermo. Generally speaking train travel in Western Europe is more expensive than budget airlines. I go by train because I value the comfort and experience.

It's so refreshing to see a realistic budget discussion, thank you! I have stopped following a couple of you tubers who spend so little.... because they don't DO anything LOL When we go, we want to do all tje things you mention: museums and shows, local guides, etc. We probably eat out and do wine experiences more often, but we save in one area to be able to spend on the things we really want to do. If I'm going to Florence Italy, I want to be able to stay in a very convenient location and have a bistecca alla Fiorentina at least once. But we'll cut cost by staying in a budget accommodation somewhere else.

Thank you so much for this video! My husband and I are working but with enough flexibility that we've taken a few major "life is short" trips the past couple years (as in, we can do it now, and you never know, so let's go). (Now we're staying closer to home as my parents have more frequent health problems.) We thought we'd do a "slow travel" approach, but we also didn't want to miss activities that really appealed to us. One of those is scuba, which feels like it requires a level of health that isn't guaranteed long-term, and is also a major expense item. We went to lower cost destinations, used travel hacks for airfare, and stayed mostly in modest lodging; but we didn't miss any experiences. No regrets.

My wife and I have been go-go travelling since we retired 3 years ago. We also want to embrace the food /culture and adventurous experiences in every country we visit. We recently returned from a 9 week tour of Egypt and Jordon. We were told by many people that it would be dangerous because of the geo political events in Gaza. It was an amazing experience and the locals were grateful because in most areas, tourism was down by 80%. We avoided the crowds and had a great time . From our experience, with hotel costs, air bandb , eating twice a day your $10,000 USD/month is very accurate. We are Canadians so add 3k exchange so $13,000 CDN/month is what we have averaged. We have currently booked a trip to the Inca trail in Peru and this was expensive because you must hire a guide to be granted the permit. We are also touring Columbia. We have found that 8-10 weeks is our limit for time away from home and family. We travel to exchange friendly countries and actually prefer them because the culture is so different. We are holding off on cruising and Europe for the slow go years when travel may be more difficult. I have had to many relatives and friends"wait" for whatever reason and they have either had major health issues or have passed. There is no time like now. Like having kids, purchasing a house, or when to retire, there is no perfect time, so take the plunge and "Just do it"!

You guys give great advice. We have been to 75 countries but I am still working part time. My wife and I have similar backgrounds to you guys in some ways! I am a long time runner for example and we have 6 kids.

Could you clarify, is that a budget per person, or as a couple?

Our target is semi comfortable backpacking with occasional treats. We have been pleasantly surprised with what we get for our money. We always aim for less than $50 AUD a night for accommodation, bus or train transport (unless it's just ridiculously long), and local restaurants. We walk a lot, and only do excursions that really excited us. We have a drink or two....too often 😂 We are averaging about $5000 AUD a month but that is somewhat inaccurate due to some tours booked in advance. Europe will be different but we are looking at buying a basic campervan and camping around Europe, UK and North Africa (maybe more). The bottom line is that we can afford this fantastic lifestyle as long as we are careful and aware of costs. Your channel has been a great resource and the Facebook community is simply wonderful, thanks.

Very informative. I'm been following lots of different travellers and they all seem to be more focused on the budget side. This is great info on what it will really cost if you want to travel and do excursions, experiences, travel to high-cost countries, etc. Your method of travel fits more with what I plan to do in retirement and sets my expectations. Spot on topic.

It’s still fun and informative waiting your vids. I tend to dig a bit deeper to get the picture. So three years 100 countries. By simple math that’s 10 days in a country. How many months a year or countries have you stayed 1 month or more?
Now at 67 I’m preferring staying a 2 weeks to a moth in a property. I feel I live more of the culture, which is my goal in a bigger city, and venturing out from there. Also your 3k a month is based on 2 people. I’m a solo traveler. Of course it’s a cheaper lodging cost for 2 people. 😀
