U.S. Immigration Policy and the Violation of Human Rights | Michelle Brané | TEDxBerkeley

Video Overview & Insights

As border stops have increased and the U.S. quietly steps up restrictionist immigration policies, the plight of refugees, many of whom are women and children, is only worsening. Despite the clarity of international law regarding the acceptance of refugees, many of whom are fleeing political instability and violence in Central America, the United States refuses to allow these vulnerable populations into the country. As Michelle BranĂ© argues, it doesn’t have to be this way.

The violation of human rights by illegal immigrants stealing and violating American rights and trying to take our identities in order to steal and lie to the courts about gaining inheritances in the courts and Justice systems and violations of Americans rights by causing obstructions against Americans children and others in these properties where they hold the kidnapped in houses where they either bought the houses or stolen inherited homes from families those properties didn’t belong to them in the first place. What does this Ted talk have to say about these violations stemming from illegal immigrants?

— @IvaR-xk9ub

A lawyer by training, Michelle BranĂ© has dedicated her life to serving some of the world’s most vulnerable populations. The Director of the Migrant Rights and Justice Program at the Women’s Refugee Commission has over 25 years of experience advocating for the critical needs of women, children and other vulnerable migrant populations in the U.S. As one of the nation’s foremost experts on immigration detention and reform, she has testified before Congress, appeared frequently in various media outlets, and frequently presented at conferences and international bodies, including the United Nations High Commission for Refugees in Geneva. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx

I am beginning to hate the Statue of Liberty because it's actually Liberty it was given to us by France we as Americans did not write those words on the Statue of Statue of Liberty people want to use the Statue of Liberty as like we supposed to honor that every time that it's a crisis around the world we will allow millions of people to come into our country but then we will have a billion people in our country which I don't want that

@Gregoryking-e9q
@

First I am for immigration but don't tell me the American citizen you could be lying for the reason why you want to come into this country you could you could want to to kill people in this country you could want to do anything to hurt the American people our job and the American citizen and the American government is to protect the citizens of this country

@Gregoryking-e9q

No human has the right to violate the sovereignty of another nation. Historically, people who have done that been called invaders and conquerers.

Her story is that everybody should come over because everybody having problems in their country and you ain't supposed to figure out your own problems in your own country so you just come over to America because you because you want America to protect human rights stay in your country and protected and solve the problem of your country don't don't let why we have to put all the problems of anybody else's country human story we have our own problems in our own country do we have to take care of a whole bunch of people come over and not sell their own problem that's the problem that I have I have no problem letting people come over but don't tell me that because you have a problem with games oh everybody should just come over because you have a problem with games that's not a legitimate excuse

@gregoryking65
@

If everybody in the world were having problems with Gaines everybody will be coming over here that's not our problem that's not a legitimate answer why you should come over here because you having problems with games a lot of people having problems with games over here we have a problem with with games so do you think that we should go over to Mexico because we have a problem with games was the case then everybody in the whole world will come to the United States because they have a problem with games or problem with something else that's not a legitimate answer why you should come over here

@gregoryking65
@

First we this asked her to come here in the first place it not the American responsibility for other people problem

You open door to 10,000 refugees today. They will be 1 million within 1 year. Refugees have become more smart and this volume blocks everything.

How many Spanish speaking countries between EL Salvador and the US border, same culture, heritage, same language. All stable. But you want the new life complete with US taxpayer benefits. Maria will get pregnant with her new little " American" as soon as she can. Zero sympathy.

I want to know why are us citizens (white conservatives) so scared of Latinx immigrants coming to America as refugees or coming here to work and live a life in America. America is still such a new country and we have so much to offer people who are willing and wanting to make a new secure life for themselves
 why dont we have more systems in place to set these people up with opportunities to live here comfortably and independently??

@Lacktoes
@

What they do now is let them cross the border and catch them in order to criminalize them and once a criminal they can't get asylum.

The Border below the United States was to keep the Foreign threat away not to used towards the Native American Peoples,......that is the Issue and European Americans ( some ) need to know that or don't care because they rather feel comfortable on Stolen Lands that are Protected for their existence to continue to be Colonizers,........its literally being used in a Unconstitutional way,...!

I seriously do not think your one example represents the majority but minority. You know because we do have laws for those seeking political asylum and in fear of their life.

Then, when talking about immigration for asylum the over whelming majority is not just going to the next country for the asylum they need, refering to those who actually need it. These people are not just stopping at the first country they come to, one that has the same language and simular culture. But, will go through several. Countries to get here.

I seriously doubt your statistics are correct. 99.8 is such a fake number. There is no way you can support it. Reason I am saying so is that I have taught in one of the largest school districts in the country. For a couple of weeks there was a rumor that ICE was going to show up and collect those students who were not there legally. Result? Classes I was teaching, which normally had about 35 students a class, were almost completely vacant. Yes, almost empty for those 2 weeks. I went from teaching classes with about 35 students per a class, give or take, to 1-2 students per a class. That means 5.71-2.85% of the classes and school were there legally. The rest were not. Meaning 94.29- 97.5% of the classes, the school were there illegally. So, basically the 2-5% of the population was paying for the education of 98-95 percent of the educational population. Wea had become no longer the majority but now are aliens in our own country. What is wrong with this picture?

In tip of that I can tell you I have actually experanced going to large chain, well known national chain store and been refused service because I did not speak spanish. Agsin the primary language taught in our education system is not good enough?

Then when not teaching and looking for work. I had experance people who did not have education in the fields I was looking for, which I did have a degree in, were being hired over me. Simply put, there are so many immagrents in the area, one of the largest cities in the U.S. where the primary job requirement was to speak a foreign language, Spanish, over having an actual degree in that field. This coming from someone, me, who is also from a Spanish haratage. But, because I speak the primary language spoke in the country and educational system , I am far less qualified. What is wrong with this picture? So, we have such a great influx that in a sence we are not even citizens in our own country.

I think we all are here to want to help others.Ameruca us known for its charity, far greater than any other country in the world, and very likely more than all other countries added in the world.

Also conservative are actually well documented to also for giving way more than liberals for charity as well. Yet, the general though is the liberal agenda, who is though to voices more charity is actually in action the uncharable groups. The point is Americans should not be 2nd class citizens in their own country. And, if we want to be a greater source of assisting others it is the Conservative approach which works best.

The USA welfare / freebie store is closed. We don't need any more people who can't take care of themselves when we as a nation are not taking care of our own homeless women children men and veterans. There comes a point of which you have to say we can't do anymore. We still take in 1 million legal people per year we can't take in the whole world.
