Making changes while in command mode? What are you talking about? I am a vim noob but still I know for a fact that, first, those keys are't commands and second, that is normal mode, not command mode. You press colon ':' to enter command mode. Or is it specific to VSCode?

After becoming proficient with Sublime Text's double-click to select a word, followed by Ctrl+D for multi-currsor selects, the increment plugin and so on vim seems like a tough sell. I learned the basic motions and I can navigate between windows and buffers a little bit, but I somehow get a much slower workflow than what I can do in Sublime. I still use vim when editing files on remote servers.

Ah yes, remap the caps lock key to escape, to make it easier, even though you have to enter a fucking mode just to start typing.
I still dont know if vim passion is satire or not

@RickeyJSimasA good lecture that will benefit all who have followed this excellent explanation.

great job leading with "esc -> :q -> enter"

@slombubem8994Welcome to the 1960s. VIM is the reason why i will never use linux.
@johanwiersma2242It is funny how representative this is. You think you can learn vim in a couple of days ,but it actualy takes you 11 years
@ΝικΝοκi know this may be a stupid question but im new to this ide, is vim/neovim an ide by itself or does it have to be used with something like vscode?
@motionsicc3:33 what a gentleman, or is it for show off!
@habijabikapjapBro, I kick down and jump up.
@CameronBFunnyCan I use Vim to play Paradox games?
@TiramisuCorleoneHilarious that he's doing all this in a vscode terminal
@efstajasvim is a cool tool and when you need to have some foundational skills in it because sooner or later you will end of a *nix system with no text editor alternatives.
But it's a product of its time - it's a lot more convenient to use modern text editors to do all of this. All this talk about efficiency is for the most part irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. So it took you 2-3 min longer to write a larger piece of code - not a large issue. Instead you didn't have to spend hours of your time memorising all the counter intuitive hotkeys and combinations that vim expects you to know to be really productive. The basics of editing, selecting, copy/pasting and searching is more than enough.
Of course for people who like to get into the deep end - there's tons to learn, but for the most part I find it's a lot more efficient to spend that time learning something that will increase your value as a specialist. Writing code faster isn't one of those metrics, otherwise most of us would be spending time working on our speed typing skills.
excellent use of the "Mista mista" lady 💯
@armofbettyThis is great now I can use vim and I'm proud of myself. Thank you for the lessons you really helped me!
@TaoufellaHouseNice, but no decent coder uses microsoft products. No vscode here.. o/
@webxorcistI pretty much always get overwhelmed when i try to learn vim. I guess i should just get cheatsheet and use that to learn😅
@hellrieda2Just spotted 4 million subscribers! WELL DONE! I know it doesn't mean a lot to you as I've seen videos of your personal life. But keep on producing your amazing videos. Love the humour. Hope the family is well too.
@AdrianTregoningim glad being stuck in vim isnt a solo experience
@blouzy.1I'm gonna be honest, this doesn't seem like 100 seconds
@C.hristofferrunning vim in vs code is a cardinal sin
@juri47298:12 If you dont want to map your ESC key to Caps Lock key you can also use Ctrl-C combination that works like ESC by default.
@ashvinsharma97Being able to paste and undo now is a game changer for me.
@aliwalil4160Bro was named Jeff this entire time…?
@tuckercoughlin5238This is the first time learning Vim and I love it!
@nocturneilsearch vim because i wanna exit out of Microsoft data stealing propaganda
@sktawsifzaman2394Jeff
@PAMlobogris39i'm not a vim user, i find nano easier for me, i just need to display numbers on the left
@nenoroalzafen3099.9% of devs will never run into the problem of "wasting too much time to edit"... coding is like 5% of programming.. :) the irrelevance of editing via vim is so negligible it's crazy..
@MrSnejinkoThank you for having the live key strokes on the screen while explaining
@yunggoth9713Vim in VSCode...

@mvidyakrishna3573Wow you can type some random crap, how useful! How's it gonna help me paste AI-generated code blocks in many files faster?
