What Game Has The Best Crash Damage? - 11 Games Compared, 1 Game Crowned Champion.

Video Overview & Insights

We compare iRacing, Forza 7, Assetto Corsa Competizione, Automobilista 2, rFactor 2, Project Cars 2, Dirt Rally 2.0, Gran Turismo Sport, F1 2020, Wreckfest and BeamNG. Which has the best overall damage model? Let's find out...

Seems rFactor 2 DOES have flat spots, however I was unable to notice them, nor bust the tyres due to them. Might need to test again in case there was something wrong with my setup (and actually you can see the incar view lol, that was the least of my issues getting this game working).

Some of the older F1 games have better visual damage models and hyper realistic ones. I'm still surprised you say ACC wins over F1, both have internal damage but F1 has better visual damage. In F1 you can cook different parts of your engine block, you can lose gears, you can lose flooring, you can destroy your sidepods, rear wing and front wing and you have visual bold spots on the tires which stays accurate. It easily beats ACC, you can only usually find alot of the heavy damage like your engine exploding mid race or your gearbox dying when you do a career, these cars last awhile therefore face issues with time.

...what, am i one of the few people who actually owns Automobilista 1? there are actually some REALLY interesting and unique vehicles represented in that game. i think its awesome.

oh come on...basic tire wear is something that should absolutely be represented in any racing game that attempts to be "realistic". fuel usage isnt as important i guess, unless youre doing endurance races, but tire wear is essential no matter the conditions or length of the race. just look at how massively those flat spots effect the cars handling in ACC, that can happen at ANY point during the race and adds an entire new layer to racecraft and strategy,

The car you chose in Iracing is actually one of the worst to show off the damage model. When you hit concrete in stock cars and open wheel they show a lot of damage and are often completely undrivable after one good impact with concrete. Where you were hitting a tire barrier it absorbs a large deal of the impact and doesn't cause nearly as much visual damage. Since I started playing this year, most cars will loose tires from crashes, the alignment and steering wheel angle gets messed up and the car wheel even bump up and down after crashes. They have made huge updates since this video was made and they no have some of the most impressive damage model out of the other simulators.

You do realize you were driving into a wall of tires in Iracing right? When you hit a concrete wall it does a lot more damage..also that isn't the best car to show off the damage model. Some of the Nascar cars really get crumpled up.

In RBR after a 50 km/h hit you won't be able to go anywhere. The radiator will be punctured and the engine will be damaged. At a lower impact speed, only the radiator is damaged and after that the car can still drive for some time until the engine overheats. The hood can be blown open by air after the impact and a lot of other things that I didn't see here at all. This is all just kindergarten compared to RBR :) So there is no main rally simulator here. I thought Iracing was better with damage.... a 150 km/h hit, and then you still have to go somewhere... ahaha. Very "realistic".

to put it simply, car manufacturers dont like to see their cars get absolutely wrecked in videogames. (I literally read through an argument about someone saying otherwise about this in a replies section from an old comment here so for the love of god please dont take his word) And before you say the old games for example have better crash physics/models, thats because car menufacturers werent as sensitive about car damage compared to now, especially since gaming is one of the biggest media & entertainment rn

SIM racing games aren't much fun than previous years arcade game like GTA San Andreas, Driver Parallel Lines, Driver San Farncisoc, Watchdogs. Its a shame to lose to any game that aren't really racing oriented game.

i gotta say though the rocks and shit on the tires in iracing genuinely caught me off guard pretty cool detail

@Ezdine_G8261

Assetto Corsa doesn't work on spectacular crashes but keeps it down to more technical elements such as tire consumption and smaller dents that may affect performance. Crashes are unintentional in this game, therefore they don't need Michael Bay levels of destruction.

Irony GTA or mortal kombat allow real actor face and body to be destroyed, hurt in brutal way. But car game doesnt even have realistic crashes, human allow their own kind seen as joke in game and become less respected than their own creation

Car manufacturers should not shy away and allow every game to add visual damages on their virtual cars. Accident happens in real life and that should be represented in the game, especially on those simulators. Not every accident is happening because the manufacturers fault and you don't want to falsely represent your product in-game to be made fully with titanium.

@sagitta98

There's a lot I don't like about Dirt 2.0 but if you get in a big enough crash half your car's bodywork can fly off and everything from radiators to the turbo can break. You did that one dirty.

And the winner in incompetence or ignorance is...Polyphony Digital (GT7) 😁! GT Sport was my last Sony "Racing Game". At some point, a change has to be made. But only my modest opinion.

In my experience PS3 games had way better damage models than most newer games out today. I find it really disappointing as technology has improved so much. Kinda no excuse for it lol. I remember Grid on PS3 and even the first Colin Mcrae DiRT had amazing damage models back then.
