Good acting is me acting like I want to watch this

I have merch again:
I played Milky White in ITW, and it was genuinely difficult because the ENTIRE role is reacting and physical acting. I had no lines, just a puppet and my face. I had to build a personality for my cow, I had to convey joy and fear and especially sadness. My proudest moment of that show was the build up I had in the background of It Takes Two right before I die, because people told me they knew I was going to. Amazing experience. I’ll never forget the applause I got during bows

I wish you spoke on James Gandolfini, he's like the king of method acting :)
@somethinginvolvinganame8322i know this isn't the point but I don't think the Joker would even send people used condoms
@baintreachasYou gotta check out Fleabag - Olivia Coleman absolutely nails the reprehensible godmother, she's unbearable and so well portrayed
@airshep2000The very best non verbal acting I ve seen was in the Netflix series the Bodyguard (not the Kostner thing).
The big reveal at the end when the young actress just moved her eyes the very slightest amount and went from innocent to sinister, was chilling.
this was the first video of yours I ever saw btw
@lunadietsch9397Interesting points. Slow down the pace. Start taking breaths, and thereby pauses, letting the audience think. Never irritate the eye or ear. It blocks thought and fractures perception. Think about how Kubrick would have done it. Think about his pace.
@CherryplanterVideo essay ass thumbnail
@GrungeChick-i7zPhilip Seymour Hoffman is the greatest of all time!
@veselganaA good actor pulls you in to the scene. You believe them. Even if they “play the same person” in every role.
A bad actor tries to convince you they’re a good actor. I can’t focus on the movie cause I’m distracted by this person who seems so obvious at “playing pretend”. (Cough Anna Kendrick cough)
I still don't know how Claire Foy managed to radiate such incredible tension and emotion with an absolutely still and composed face on The Crown. She was also incandescent in Women Talking, in a totally different way (extremely openly expressive). One of the best actors working.
@sophiarose703Succession is the most lazy writing in a drama.
@camarors91Mads Mikkelsen is one of the best actors in reacting to other peoples acting. He have such an insane range altough Hollywood mainly choose to cast him in villan-type roles.
@KingNickarn11:06 I get that but instead of laughing I cry. Anytime I see something beautiful or impressive or moving I cry
@Wee_ThoughtTo me, if I want to see the best “sad” acting, I watch THAT scene in Manchester by the Sea.
@MaurickShThe thing a lot of people seem to forget is that actors are supposed to be DIRECTED on how to act in each scene. Most of the time what we see as "bad acting" is just bad direction or lack thereof from the person meant to be directing them. Or they are literally acting as they are told and what they are told is complete and utter garbage, then we blame them for being "so bad at acting"
@katyhayes3789I absolutely love these media analysis videos from you. I can just feel the passion for the craft throughout the entire video, like to the point where now I feel like im gushing with passion and energy.
@MintyVoidI hate this 7 year old egg
@Whoheckamia couple of weeks ago i clicked on this video (that i had no real interest in) and the way you talked about bryan cranston's acting made me watch the entirety of breaking bad. and now part of my brain will forever cursed by the existence of walter white
@hunterino333It’s weird cause “bad acting” would be more realistic in real time than “movie acting” if that makes sense
@LK-tf3ucHaha yeah
@ProtoDream11:52 “ah fuck, did Aaron Paul smoke meth?”
@bloopystewAHHHHHHHHHHHHH
@sofboiquietBreaking Bad - Tread Lightly scene. You see Walter shift back into Heisenburg in real time. Incredible. Favorite scene of the whole show.
Can't believe Daniel Day Lewis didn't get a mention here
I met met Lil Mike and Funny Bone (from Reservations Dogs) at an airport when we were all trapped waiting for a super delayed flight. They’re really cool, kind, and easy to talk to! Genuinely great guys.
@theLadyVetinari9:50 this how I found out they are both the same person 😂
@jacobgloria1873I finished Breaking Bad last week so after all these years I can finally watch this
@uranovayakilka2484I’ve abandoned my boy
@ssaunter9965this video has ruined wacthing things for me cus now i only watch the people reacting to the person speaking and most of the time they look so goofy
@ainsley4784i think that saddest story of method acting that i've heard is from meryl streep, who method acted for the devil wears prada. she said she wouldn't join in on the cast having fun and it was crazy lonely, and that just is so sad
@audrey_the_professorBryan Cranston immediately popped into my mind when the video started lol
In The Office, Jenna and John (Pam and Jim) have such good chemistry that I've had to remind myself more than once that they're not a couple IRL lol. And when the show was on TV they would both say that if they were out in public together theyd always have at least one person saying "omg you're together in real life! I knew it!" 😅
As you said the point about reacting it reminded me of this scene from The Walking Dead back in the season 2 finale. It's between Rick and Lori, and Rick admits to killing Shane, and also admitting that Carl later shot Shane when he came back as a walker, and as Rick is doing this monologue the actress playing Lori does an absolute masterclass of acting without saying any lines and just using her face to convey exactly what she is thinking.
In the Doctor Who episode the Zygon Inversion, there are 3 great performances all in one scene. You got Peter Capaldi delivering an anti war monologue whilst also recalling his character's own actions during a war in a desperate effort to stop the villian from basically setting off a nuke, you've then got Jenna Coleman playing the villian, who goes from being completely smug to backing down from their stance, and then you've got Jemma Redgrave who grew up seeing Capaldi's character as a hero, listening to his character reveal just how much they've messed up in their life, and being horrified about it.
For me its why i love shows like house so much. All the actors feel like they genuinely are talking to each other and reacting to what they are saying and its so captivating and well done. Especially because high laurie is literally british but his american is so damn good that it whisks you away and seeing him out of charecter is kind of jarring
@NotaArtistThis seems like the most non-drew video that drew made. The thumbnail looks like a video essay. But I love it
@ToothPickGD0:53 was that a ghost?
@felixowen269314:52 Quindi a questo tipo è appena morto il cane? Complimenti a lui, si nota subito.🤔
@drekezit55Peccato, era interessante e meritavi il mio like. Se solo non avessi tirato in ballo Jake Gyllenhaal /Louis Bloom proprio all'inizio. Comunque ti ho fatto il favore di vedere tutto ugualmente.
@drekezit553:40 pause😂
@JevansFilm12:26 I heard the actor of zuko in the new atla live action did this but he shaved his head like zuko so whenever he looked in the mirror he'd get pissed and that's how he got more into character 😭
@K3rezYou should watch The Master and The Leftovers if you haven't.
@jpVarimethod acting isn't just acting like the character when you aren't recording
christian bales method acting for american psycho wads not just acting weird to other people, what bale did was do the skincare and exercise routines that patrick bateman does every day in preparation for the role, the make himself stressed he would drink an absurd amount of coffee etc etc
Another amazing performance I think people sleep on because the show itself imploded: Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes on The Walking Dead. Holy Crap, the emotion he conveys in such f'd up circumstances is incredible. On the main show his performance was solid throughout (despite some less than adequate plotlines/dialogue), not sure if it caries through the spin offs. So much is conveyed, you never wonder what his character is thinking or going through because he delivers it through his facial expressions, manurisms, the way he delivers his lines. He has the "conflicted male" act down lol
@littlehellman8198Talks about Succession and Star Wars instead of There Will Be Blood or The Wrestler.
@interlinkedMediaI heard all the points you made and I think very few of them are valid (and I really mean that with all due respect). It was a fairly informative video, though. Thanks
@l3roy619my obligatory supernatural comment on every video - 2:00 this is no joke the reason why everyone loves jensen ackles (other than his beautiful pretty boy twink aesthetic) - he's such an amazing reactive actor and does so much with his face even when he's not speaking
@salsalewDaniel Day Lewis is also commonly referred to as a method actor, because he keeps the accent and vocal mannerisms of his characters between takes, but from what I've heard, he's still himself, he doesn't act like an ass. That I get, because he's commonly given roles with particularly tricky idiolects.
