I wish more people were aware that what you most often see is "roles" not "personality". A role is what the person takes on either to make work or even survive a situation or a time in life, take on in a workplace or friend group, it does not have to be in accordance to their personality. And what people notice for instance in co workers or students is their role. Even in your familiy or friends you might see their role, and the personality is more difficult to notice. To see someones personality more clearly it is consistant over time and over many situations, so you have to know them well. Or yourself well for that matter, over time and in different situations.
