What's behind Pakistan-Afghanistan conflict? • FRANCE 24 English

Video Overview & Insights

Pakistan bombed major cities in Afghanistan including the capital Kabul on Friday, with Islamabad's defence minister declaring the neighbours at "open war". It comes after months of tit-for-tat clashes, with Islamabad accusing Afghanistan of failing to act against militant groups that carry out attacks in Pakistan, which the Taliban government denies. France 24’s Douglas Herbert takes a closer look at the causes of the conflict.

Why isn’t this getting attention?

The creation of Pakistan has always been a mistake. Countries have no right to exist. So here is the solution: Afghanistan gets Khyber and Waziristan. Balochistan becomes free. Punjab and Kashmir each are merged with their Indian counterpart; the reunited States and Sindh become then part of the Indian Union. My goodness, what are all those diplomats doing all day?! This is a good solution, like the reunification of Germany was.

There are many. First is Afghanistan refusing to recognize Durand line as official border. They claim western Pakistan namely Kpk, Waziristan, Balochistan as parts of Pakistan. Secondly they have attacked Pakistan repeatedly. Sending militants in Balochistan and blowing up a mosque in Islamabad. Despite repeated warnings they didn't stop. Thirdly America made sure to leave behind weapons, artillery and hardware for a good measure. So that conflict would stay active in the region.

Pashtun ethnics in Afghanistan have vision of so called “Great Afghanistan” (taking a part of Pakistani’s soils es specially Peshawar province) according to their believes, backed and sponsored by India. At the same time other big noun Pashtun ethnics like Tajiks, Hazara’s , Uzbeks und etc basically at the northern, western and Central parts of Afghanistan have different vision. They accept the existing Borders und respect other countries soils.
The Fact is, that Talibans which was created in 90s backed by Pakistani intelligence service against Mujahideen for their long term vision in Afghanistan, after took over of Afghanistan in 2021 recently changed their vision from a Malisha’s Groups to more to their traditional believes in order to receive internal support. Now they trained and sponsored technically and financially by India against Pakistan in order to divide Pakistani in to many parts ….

This regime doesn't represent the whole Afghanistan. Before American exit, these guys were war lords and had their separate gangs with kurdish and tajik influence. Pakistan gathered them to form a care taker government that will be responsible to hold elections in the country within a year (see "Doha Accord" for reference). But its been 5 years now they are still ruling Afghanistan without elections. They don't have control in most of the regions where India/Israel is harboring terrorists and exporting them to Pakistan and in Iran. Pakistan, Qatar and Turkiye asked TTA regime to take action against these terrorists inside Afghanistan, but they didn't. On the other hand, these terrorists are killing pakistani civilians and forces on daily basis. That left Pakistan with no option but to strike on these camps itself.

Do you know how the Pakistani Tehrike Taliban became so powerful within Pakistan? I think it’s important to highlight that the Pakistani government sheltered these terrorists for decades. Unfortunately, these terrorists have turned on their masters now. I say unfortunately because I denounce all forms of terrorist attacks.

The real cause Is Afghan Taliban sponsored terrorism in Pakistan. 1000's of innocent people have died because of this terrorism in Pakistan.

@chaudhryyounis5706

I am always taken aback by how ignorant and off-base Western media is about Pakistan's relation with terrorism. Pakistan is not a victim of terrorism from outside. Most of these groups can trace their origin and funding coming from Pakistani ISI. This is a country where UN recognized terrorist groups go door to door collecting donations for their "cause" and participate openly in local elections. Pakistan is no victim. it's a country reaping the benefits of its own state policy.

@militeGAMING

Let’s not forget that Pakistan, along with USA, created Taliban!
Pakistan’s long-standing policy of distinguishing between "good" and "bad" Taliban, that it used to further its own regional interests and destabilise its neighbours, has now backfired. Despite being the first to celebrate the Taliban's 2021 takeover of Afghanistan, Pakistan is now in a state of "open war"
Blaming Afghanistan for domestic groups like the TTP, TLP, JEM, BLF and many others ignores Pakistan's own history of radicalising its population through religious zealotry. Attributing its current internal security crisis solely to Afghan influence is not only unfair but a refusal to acknowledge the consequences of its own past strategies.
To now scapegoat Afghanistan for the activities of domestic entities like the TTP or TLP is a diversion from the systemic radicalisation within Pakistan’s own social and political fabric.

I just wanna point out how it’s funny that these militant groups that the afghans are harbouring are only attacking Pashtun or aka Afghan lands they haven’t attacked the punjabi side at all it makes you wonder
