The Auschwitz concentration camp is not a tourist destination, and although many influencers and travel portals recommend it as a must-see in Poland, you need to prepare for your visit. It's not a museum with paintings and interactive exhibitions where you leave with a smile and go out for dinner. Many foreigners are unprepared for this. It's not a set like in a movie town; these aren't models; these are historical objects, real places where millions of people died in horrific conditions. The image you're now receiving is somewhat distorted: green grass, pleasant weather, and singing birds. When the camp operated, there was no green grass there; there was mud and rocks everywhere. Before visiting, it's a good idea to prepare yourself by watching some materials (you can even find some on YouTube) containing original recordings, so that when you get there, you can experience the place at an appropriate level and with understanding. This wasn't a prison you'd leave after serving your sentence, it was a factory for destroying people on a massive scale.

I lived there for a couple of years, and in my opinion, Poland would be a great country to live in if the cost of living wasn't so high compared to wages. The EU's ETS has made electricity and gas energy generally very expensive, and we all know that once electricity becomes expensive, everything else does too. Gasoline is also quite expensive, now sits at around 6 PLN per liter, which comes out to roughly $6 per gallon. Grocery shopping was also particularly painful, as I felt I could get much more for the same amount of money in the States.

Real estate is also very expensive. If you get a mortgage for a house or even an apartment, you will probably be paying it off until you die. That is why many Polish people get married at a young age, because living by yourself can be very difficult.

I also felt that buying a home was almost impossible without taking on a huge financial burden. It felt like years of work would go into simply paying for basic necessities and a place to live, leaving very little room to actually build wealth or enjoy life.

I felt this every month because that is how long you have to wait to get paid. After deducting all the money I had to spend just to get to work and pay all the bills, I felt like I was being robbed and that my time was being wasted because I wasn't really getting anywhere financially.

The country is beautiful, clean, and safe. I just feel that things are way too expensive when you consider that neighboring Germany has a not much higher cost of living, but wages are three times higher, and they also have very generous retirement plans.

In Bochnia Salt Mines, there is an underground hotel with restaurants and sport facilities. Worth checking out!

Mówiąc szczerze, to na tych Plantach to macie NIEWYOBRAŻALNY SYF, Krakusy. Zróbcie coś z tym, bo te pierwsze sceny na tym filmie wyglądają przerażająco. Pogięte barierki, rachityczne, wygryzione krzewy, zaniedbana zieleń, czarne plamy na trawnikach... FATALNIE to wygląda. Naprawdę nie ma się czym zachwycać. To już nie są standardy, których wszyscy oczekują.

Dla sprostowania, żeby nikt nie szerzył tutaj ordynarnej propagandy i fałszywych informacji: KL Auschwitz-Birkenau był niemieckim, nazistowskim obozem koncentracyjnym i zagłady, założonym przez władze III Rzeszy na okupowanych terenach Polski. Dowództwo i załoga składali się z Niemców (SS).

Polacy nie dowodzili tym obozem – oni, obok Żydów, byli jego pierwszymi i jednymi z największych ofiar. Niemcy więzili tam i mordowali ludzi wielu narodowości. Warunki były nieludzkie: więźniowie umierali z wycieńczenia z powodu katorżniczej pracy i skrajnego głodu, karmieni ochłapami i spleśniałym chlebem. Przypisywanie Polakom odpowiedzialności za to miejsce to jawne fałszowanie historii której dopuszczają się czesto NIEMIECY

The new version of the A-B museum is much more modern with multimedia etc. In the past there were literal piles of clothes and other personal belongings of the prisoners...that was highly emotional experience.

came back today from Kraków. Too bad you missed the museum in wieliczka. when you went to the elevator you should stand in the left lane for museum. Salt mine itself is great, but museum is second part. and after trip you go out in second elevator almost in the center of town

These were German Nazi camps, not Polish camps. Jews were the primary victims of the Holocaust, but many other groups were also murdered there, including hundreds of thousands of Poles, Roma people, Soviet POWs, and political prisoners.

Video is cool and all, ofc camps were mainly for polish people but at the end mostly jews were transported there. Anyway my only takeaway is that americans tae 3 weeks to visit how many? 3-4 countries? you cant see much with this time, 2-3 weeks is small amount of time for one country 2-3 cities. Its not personal or negative comment, it is just sad that in USA you have no days off so you have to pack 3-4 trips into one because no time, that is no vacation, you cant rest and you cant see much. You have to know that Germans built concetration camps on the territory they occupied including Auswitz which we now preserve for our money. Germans who caused it do not give a cent. Germans distroyed Poland, 6 million Polish citizens died because their invasion on Poland. They stole half a million works of art. And they do not want to pay for this. They paid Jews but Poles who were also mass murdered they do not want to do.

For me the hardest was to see the hairs and schoes taken from prisoners. It's good you saw the camp. Makes you rethink a lot.

Man - holocaust was not an exclusive Jewish experience.
It was a Polish experience too.
That death camp was not originally built for Jews. It was built for Poles.
The first transports to that camp were Polish prisoners, NOT Jewish.
Throughout WW2, Poles, Russians, and many other nationals were brought to Auschwitz and died there.

So stop that propaganda because the world got sick of it. It is not just Jews who were being exterminated during WW2. Auschwitz, like many other German death camps was used to exterminate Poles, Russians, Gipsys, and everyone else who resisted Germans. Not just Jews. Remember that.

Nice Video! If you’re still around, there is a huge record breaking amusement park featuring some of the greatest coasters in the world (according to many reviewers). Haven’t been there yet but it’s definitely on my bucket list next time I’m in the area! 20min drive from Oświęcim where the Auschwitz concentration camp is located, which is quite ironic I guess. Place where friends and families go to have a time of their life located next to a place which was one of the saddest and most brutal spots of the 20th century Europe. Probably best to visit the amusement park first to not have a downer thoughts at the park.

It is probably worth mentioning that Jews were not the only people killed and imprisoned in Auschwitz. Basically, all nations of Europe were brought there to meet their demise. It's also worth mentioning that, by percentage of the pre-war population, Poles were the most burdened, with up to 22% of the population killed.

Im from Poland and I have to say our country is save but not as save as it was 10-20 years ago. In towns I would definitely not go outside after dark.
