I had a boxer we rescued from a bad owner. She was nice to everyone who entered the house if I was ok with them. If I wasn’t or if I was on edge she would be wary and protective over me. She was attached to me everywhere I went.

She was amazing at paying attention to threats and even warned my family of a stalker who was watching our family for a month. Sadly she died of cancer a few years ago. We got a new boxer later named Mikey and he is friendly and loving never aggressive. But one day my dad came into the house and got aggressive to my mom and hit Mikey. Mikey bit him. That’s when I realized that any of my boxers would do anything for my family if we were in danger.

Why Boxer Dogs Make Surprising Guard Dogs!

Are Boxers Good Guard Dogs? | The Truth Revealed

My young son and I were at a local park that turns into an off leash dog park in the evening. We were the only ones there. Usually she sticks pretty close to us because she is guarding us. She's always very alert. We were the only ones out there besides some older kids at the nearby basketball courts and a family at the little kids playground. A guy starts walking towards us. He's looking around, gets on his phone, and keeps walking towards us while he's on his phone. Our other dog is just chasing his ball clueless but our boxer girl dials in on this guy and she's just watching him. I'm watching too and as long as he stays his distance I'm fine. He starts heading our way more though and she trots out to intercept him. She just looks at him for a bit, assessing him, and decides she doesn't like the situation. She starts barking at him and doing that springy boxer jump at him. She doesn't stop and come back to us until he decides to go the other way.

My aunts massive boxer named ‘Topper’ was the best babysitter ever..
As kids whatever we were doing he would just sit near us and watch..
One time we were roughhousing in the surf at the beach.. My cousin was messing around with the adults, trying to make them think he was drowning (stupid,yes.. we were very young)
That fucking dog shot into the water like a rocket, swimming INTO THE SURF to get to him..
I will never forget that..

BOXER DOG: BEST DOG PROTECTOR (Tommy And Cid)

They were bred as guard dogs.

Our Boxer, born in 1956, looked nothing like todays Boxer. Nothing!

He was imported from Germany. 110 pounds of muscle. Built like a beer keg with a cinder block for a head.

He was built more like a modern Bull Mastiff or Cane Corso, but with Boxer colors (he was Fawn and White), docked and cropped. He made it to nearly 15.

RIP, Buck. I'll see you on the other side.

I got so tired of people who didn't know it was a boxer thinking it was a pitbull. I hate that but in a way it's good

Boxer Dogs as Guard Dogs

Tank sleeps with me at a little over 100lbs, largest of the litter. A Boxer. He always sleeps in the bed with his head facing the only door to my room at the base of the bed at the lower part of my legs. He does not move all night long, but always will alert you to any sound he isn't use to or if something weird is going outside, anything that is out of place in the yard, he will take notice. He may alert at 2 am or a need to go out and I respond. He loves everyone he gets to know, but he has to know them as part of the family. He is basically a 100 lb love bug. He loves the wife, but I am his real love. Where I go, he has to go. When I come home it is like Christmas morning for a young child. You will not find a better friend, protector, love of children when they are raised with them, guard dog, clown, huge lap dog and a creature that loves you beyond even being, than a Boxer. The sad part is that their life span is not the long, maybe 10-12 years- but I cherish every day, Tank is with me.

Boxer Dog Temperament

Training Boxers for Protection

Many people seem to mistake boxers for pitbulls. That can be a good thing - they are intimidated by them, but a bad thing when you want an apartment and you have to persuade the landlord your goofball is, indeed, a goofball.

Boxer Dog Destructive Behavior

Boxer Dog Socialization

Good article. The point is that any breed of dog may or may not be a good guard dog based on the dogs' training and personality. Even German Shepard dogs may not always have the right personality for guard dog work. Having said that, I have kept Boxer dogs my whole life and I am 70years old so I know dogs pretty well. I use my Boxer dog as my best friend and all I have to do is love him and he protects me by natural behavior. No one has EVER messed with me when I was with my Boxer dog . No one ever dared to enter my house or yard with my Boxer on duty. People have told me they are not afraid of Boxer dogs but I have noticed through out my life that when a person who claims to have no fear of a boxer dog suddenly change their minds when they are confronted with 94 pounds of insane raving German bulldog !! All of a sudden people decide not to take on the dog at all, but if they did the Boxer would maul them to death in under five minutes, guarantied ! I love Boxers and I trust them with my life. Best dogs on the planet. You piss one off and you are dealing with Pitbull level lethality or worse !, Guaranteed. Boxers are, by the way, the most lethal dog on the planet per capita. Look it up

Boxer Dogs with Children

Your queries -

I am in my 60s but I always had larger breed guard dogs. I had an attempted break in when I was 23yrs old and the police made the suggestion...Get a dog! I have had many breeds over the years. But my last dog was a Boxer. She was easy to train and I loved how she integrated into my family. I am divorced with 2 teen kids and I was surprised how loveable she was with myself and the kids. She moniored who came on my street and if they stepped into my yard she loudly sounded the alarm. When my son's friends came to visit, she smelled all before they were allowed in. She was so good natured I thought she wouldn't protect. Her and I walked a lot and one day a dog came from a yard, circled behind and got ready to attact. She changed like a switch went off. She stood her ground and when the dog attacked, she lunged and it was over in seconds. I never taught her that. She came right back to me gave a huff, and we continued our walk. I know this is long but I have to include this. During the time I had her, I got very ill and had surgery. I was in bed for a few weeks and she never left me. At times the pain was bad and at those times I would say her name and she would come up to where my arms were and I would hold onto her. With the warmth of her body and the comfort she offered me, I would fall asleep holding her. The best dog ever!!

German Boxers are Built Larger. Ask Tan Oak Kennels. Herr Noble Herr Kendahl Herr Jagger. Lots of drools when they are Trained for a Family. They will be there when your at work. Walk your children to the store and back without an issue. They will not "Bark" as they simply stare at you.. into the ground. I miss them All and always will. I always have a pair still to this day. Meinen Bullenbeissers.

Lots of people in south africa uses boxer as guarddogs and i saw how good tgey are if a danger situation comes up, they can change by danger in sec from a lovly pet to real real deal if the familie is in danger. Boxer are relaxed watch and gzarddogs but if you need them, they are 100% behind you

boxer personality traits

best family guard dogs

Boxes are inherently guardians. If trained properly they can be a very useful asset to have. Much like Pitbulls they can be extremely lovable and at ease with human connection. So if guarding is their duty it’s best to train them to be more suspicious of people regardless of their relationship with them. They’re extremely intelligent so they can decipher whether they are a threat or not when trained to do so. They can be extremely active and prima donna’s. They can whine a lot and use their charm to get their way. Non the less great breed to have ❤
