Yes!!!!! I don’t f-king get it anymore and it’s not just CGI storytelling, acting, realism, and relatability all went to
sh!t especially for Disney I mean lord!!!!

So the mother of films for modern audiences is "Iron Man". Well...

even the good modern cgi feels somewhat off tho

To be honest, I only clicked on this video because I saw optimus.

the only time I accepted and liked cgi was Pacific Rim 1. They made it somehow feel weighty and it complemented the story

Yup. You can pretty much walk into a movie nowadays expecting some sort of CGI, whether it's from Hollywood or even from China.

But honestly, the VFX in the Avatar series is still top-tier. In TWOW and Fire and Ash, the effects are so insanely realistic that you can't even tell what's CGI and what’s actually real. Even though CGI is supposed to support the story rather than replace it, it plays a huge role in leveling up the whole movie-watching experience.

Because CGI is being used in literally all the movies nowadays so it has lost the wow factor the skill used to carry earlier.

In response to the title - the human brain can’t continuously process images that defy physics and nature. It’s fun here and there but not all the time.

CGI is not the problem. The problem is that movies are about making profits anymore. When was the last time you saw a movie that brought you into the story? When was the last time you were genuinely curious or empathetic to a character? Exactly. Movies don't really guide you through the story anymore, they're CGI slop with badly written characters.

I think directors are the keystone visual effects get better. few directors has a hands input Steven Spielberg, Guillermo del Toro, Michael Bay I think that's why they have put great input. and industry it self like animation brutal deadlines and low pay

This is why I don’t like cgi. It’s become their only medium. Whenever I watch a series or movie, I always believe what I see but when everything is green screen I don’t believe it and then I don’t enjoy it. Just take the recent anaconda movie with Jack black and Paul Rudd. They actually filmed on location! (So impressive!) but then they used the worst cgi for the snake, and instead of mixing practical effects, they just gave us a shitty cgi snake. I know it’s a meta comedy, but what if instead of showing a shitty snake rendition, they could’ve used ripples in the water, filmed from the snakes pov, or like used a sock puppet. Anything to make it tangible, but no, they go with over-telling and bad graphics

CGI is part of the problem, but the main problem is still bad story telling. Writers are mentally bankrupt, no new ideas.

It's boring because we're used to quality of effects - there's no effect WOW now days - there are no special effects that couldn't be created today

I saw a lot of people talk about how over used CGI is today in movies and looks worse than movies made 30 years ago. Well I watched Creed 2 a few weeks ago, a film I hadn’t watched since it came out. I was shocked how bad the fight looked in my second viewing, it was like an animated Video game, it’s bad already. Then I thought about how the Rocky fights still look great but are like 40 plus years old. So it’s 100% right, this digital rubbish now, is going to make modern movies age poorly in the future compared to much older movies. That’s because in Rocky they are pretending to fight and that’s real, in Creed it’s CGI, Computer Animations and only some real. That’s why Back To The Future, Terminator 2, Titanic, Lord Of The Rings, Matrix etc all still look great.

The answer is simple, CGI used to be for achieving realism and realism is no longer the focus of modern movies with CGI spectacle.

I actually thought that this video will tackle the issue of most CGI being made with UE5, nowadays. Gore Verbinski criticized the fact that most of the big players have started using UE5 and this is why most of the movies have a gaming aesthetic to them, rather than that close to realism feeling you would get (remember the CGI from Pirates of the Caribbean?). Traditional rendering, done by established names in the industry was, is and will remain centuries ahead of what you can achieve, in the present, with UE5. So after watching this video (and wasting a good quarter of an hour of my life) i realized that this is not why CGI feels boring now but rather a random rant of someone who mistakenly confuses bad CGI with bad story telling.

Guys! Why when click like on this video the like animation is different? When did this happen?

I still can't believe how good the CGI in the prehistoric planet series has been. Really puts most stuff out there at the moment to shame.
