Why Jamaican Festival Tastes So Good (And How to Make It Right!)

Video Overview & Insights

Why does Jamaican festival taste so good?

The bass hits so hard, perfect track selection for a massive summer party

— @VOLTEXTomorrowland

It’s not just the sweetness—it’s the crispy outside, the soft, pillowy middle, and that smell when it hits the oil. In this video, I’ll show you exactly how to make perfect fried festival at home, using simple ingredients and a few easy techniques.

We’ll talk about the flour, cornmeal, coconut milk, and even some popular Jamaican twists like Lasco Soy Food Drink. Whether you’re serving it with jerk, escovitch, or just want to enjoy it on its own—this recipe is a must-know.

Fantastic!!

What do you eat your festival with?

Ingredients for Jamaican Festival

Excellent video! 😍

— @bundilee

2 cups all-purpose flour

½ cup refined cornmeal

Maybe I'm weird but I always drop in some vanilla essence, I like a crispier texture so I add more cornmeal and a dash of cinnamon and nutmeg. Not enough to overwhelm but toy get the warmth and extra something they add to the recipe. My family loves it.

— @ebonibrandon

½ tbsp baking powder

(Use ¾ to 1 tbsp if you prefer a lighter festival)

The best festival that I have ever made. Just as good as the ones sold on the river. Thank you!

— @bigolskrimps

1½ tbsp softened butter

1 tbsp brown sugar

Pumpkin Punch

— @prvg7851

½ tsp salt

1 to 1½ cups coconut milk (add gradually)

Thanks for teaching how to make this from scratch.👩🏾‍🎓 I usually make it from the pre-made festival mixes.

— @hrdawnchef

Oil for shallow frying

Optional Variations:

Very informative video

— @bigblackaf

½ cup Lasco Soy Food Drink (in place of sugar and part of the milk)

Milk or water instead of coconut milk

NICE !!!

— @joelitupua

Followed the exact instructions, and sorry to tell you, but this is the worst festival I have ever made. This is a constructive criticism. Even putting more flour in to combat the stickiness, did not really work as you said it would, and I put in 1cup of liquid instead of 1& 1/2. Oh dear !!!
