Why Nobody Can Afford a Home Anymore

Video Overview & Insights

Ever wondered why buying a home today feels impossible, even if you earn a decent salary? Why your parents bought houses easily while you can’t even afford rent? In this video, Explains 101 breaks down the global housing crisis in the simplest way possible so anyone can understand.

Can our generation ever afford a home again? Drop your thoughts 👇

— @Explains101

We explain how homes stopped being homes and turned into investment tools, why prices keep rising even when nobody’s buying, how Wall Street firms like Blackstone and Invitation Homes now own thousands of houses, and why landlords today are often hedge funds instead of humans.

You’ll also learn about land hoarding, zombie houses, Airbnbs replacing locals, and how government “solutions” often make the problem worse. Finally, we explore if renting is becoming the new normal and what could actually fix this broken system.

Something you left out was Private Equity buyers. Yes, corporate buyers have done tremendous damage to the U.S. market. However, the real villains are smaller, private equity firms, who in many markets, have bought as many as 40% of the available homes.

— @jdnelms62

Using simple language, real-life examples, and clear visuals, we reveal why the dream of home ownership keeps slipping away for millions around the world.

This video should be watched by people who blame immigrants and illegal immigrants for the price of the houses.

the best option is a pay rent in 2026? what do you think?

0:00 Introduction

1:03 Section 1: When Houses Stopped Being Homes

People don't realize home ownership is a MASSIVE responsibility; " careful what you wish you just might get it "

— @RARochester

2:48 Section 2: Why Prices Keep Going Up (Even When Nobody Buys)

5:37 Section 3: Your Landlord is a Hedge Fund

This video hit the spot dead on. Capitalism has people punching themselves in the face just to avoid a face punching. Profit over people is the money economy not the cooperation economy. If a system working means that a system helps everyone get what they need then this system is the opposite of that. If by a working system you mean can a greedy immoral person make a lot of money then yeah it works well. Getting the poor to fight over scraps so the rich can run away with the banquet is a little hard to swallow.

— @davidcanatella4279

8:10 Section 4: Make the Problem and Sell the Solution

10:06 Section 5: Is Renting the New Normal?

Greed rules everything around

— @glossy3RDeye

12:53 Conclusion

Most don’t make enough money to afford a home. Unfortunately that doesn’t stop people from getting one. They usually have to take loans to do major repairs, or to pay off credit card debt. It all stems from debt and income.

If 10,000,000 illegal immigrants were forced to vacate the US, around 3 million units would be available.
That would DRASTICALLY lower housing costs throughout the US.
As for the jobs they do, put able-bodied welfare recipients on them, make prisoners actually earn their keep and simply deal with it.
If housing costs drop, a LOT of people would accept less money for the jobs they do.

I bought my 3 bedroom for 10k and I know the secret. It's the area and type of house. This is your first house, not your last. Stop looking in expensive urban/suburban areas. Those are all concrete houses that your parents got loans for. You can literally buy a manufactured house in a rural area for under 20k. Do it or don't do it, all I know is I own my 3 bedroom and it was only 10k. No it's not a mobile home or a trailer, that's different. Now I'm saving up a shit ton of money like this, so that I CAN buy what I want in the future, and in the meantime, I have a f**king nice 3 bedroom house....Your first house isn't your last house that costs 250k+.......

10:32 wrong illustration, the land value tax is meant to be very high and replace all other taxes so that tax would be $150k to even $200k so you either have tenants in that apartment or sell it.

Meaning holding just land would be extremely expensive and even if big hedge funds held on for longer, they wouldn't be able to dodge the taxes so great, even more tax revenue as their land appreciates in value meaning no profits year by year on unproductive land.

You as a home owner would actually get a reduction in your total taxes as this higher property tax is much less than your previous property tax combined with income and all other taxes

An Australian here. The Neoliberal experiment should be brought to an end. Here the banks have couples on a treadmill of exhaustion paying massive mortgages so the banks can make billions and the flunkies running them can earn millions. Prior to deregulation a person on a minimum wage could buy a house. The banks kept a cap on the price of housing, the mortgage repayment couldn't exceed 25 per cent of ONE income.

@MrLeedebt

Good video, but I’d be careful blaming only investors. In some areas, the bigger issue is simply not building enough housing for decades.

You could buy a house and build a family or you could live in the woods and buy a motorcycle

Few reasons:

1.) Home hoarding. Boomers love to be slumlords.

2.) 2% of the population is 40% of the billionaires. Their religion teaches the "goyim" (a slur like saying the N word) are just cattle. Insects without souls. And if you dine with one its like dining with a dog.

Because you are just cattle they dont mind bleeding you dry or poisoning you, usually flat out intentionally because they can find the link from, for example: glyphosate to cancer and push glyphosate while they invest in cancer treatment centers on the back end.

1 person should not be able to own more than 1 rental. 1 home. And maybe 1 vacation home. Outside of that the property tax should be ONE THOUSAND PERCENT so its flat out impossible to hoard homes.

10:57 okay look, I hate big corporations probably more than the next guy, but private corporations own less than 1% of the single family homes in the country. It's probably still too many, but it's not driving the insane prices we've been seeing

@justa4cylind3r
@

What about the fact that whenever there is a housing area being constructed, most have been SOLD OUT already like WHO THE FUCK IS BUYING UP ALL THE FUCKING HOUSES?!!

@timtams5283

This video does not talk enough about density in big cities. Young people want to live near the centers and public transportation, as in Paris. They don't want to do 3hours commute every day as their parents. So in big cities, prices go even higher. We need density, public transportation, and hence high buildings to live in. That's what a land value tax could bring, it could answer very efficiently the crisis in big cities. Outside of these, what you explained in the video is enough

@GigaHugo
@

I have figured it out. I'll just set the building ablaze and tben buy the property and build a house.

I live in gentrified Brooklyn under a rent controlled apartment. People out here really paying 3k/4k for apartments is wild. I’m Hispanic, not that it matters but let me tell you people think I’m collecting recycled trash when I leave for work in the morning 💀
Point is, unless you have rich parents you’re fu*ked out here

Honestly, we would need a parabolic run. Whatever that means. Because I am not expecting bitcoin going to 1M... After the run it may crash again so 60k bitcoin feels cheap. Right now something seems off: institutions, ETFs, US SBR, countries warming up to 'crypto' regulations...and yet, bitcoin's just above 70k. Retail FOMO almost non-existent. Don't get me wrong, I am satisfied with the price - all my purchases are in green - but I guess I need some convincing price action to start accumulating again before the next pump…managed to grow a nest egg of around 100k to a decent 932k in the space of a few months. Thanks again, Elizabeth Anna, for the regular updates,

There should be housing price regulation a 2 bedroom house should be between 150k and 200k a 3 bedroom should be between 200k and 250k.

Boomers are going to be in for a rude awakening when they discover that their obscenely overpriced house has become an illiquid asset they can't sell at current prices because younger people are priced out of the market. It's already happening as the listing durations nationwide have skyrocketed.
