Why VPNs are a WASTE of Your Money (usually…)

Video Overview & Insights

Commercial VPNs probably hurt your privacy and security more than they help. Behind the layers of marketing sits a darker side of the industry. Ask yourself questions like:

Dishonest video

— @SoloDeveloping-d6j

- Why trust a VPN company and their ISP over my own?

- Who’s actually running these companies?

No they're not I would tell everybody to get a VPN

— @Thethinker6141

- Why so many VPN ads on YouTube?

- What’s up with all the review sites?

I guess this video is about VPNs that make you paid monthly or annually. Since I'm from a country with lots of censorship, having a VPN, even free, is a must

— @vondymort

VPNs are designed to transport devices from a network of low trust to high trust. Or bridge traffic between high and high trust. A site-to-site or corporate VPN both fall in this category.

With commercial VPNs, you’re more likely to be transporting your Internet to a network of lower or uncertain trust. Rather than just your ISP seeing your traffic, you grant this privilege to the VPN provider and their ISP too.

You forget that many countries have Governments that increasingly spy and repress what you do and see online. Couple that with certain Governments that have banned or want to ban VPNs entirely. Why would they do this if having a VPN isn't secure at all?
So they're not perfect- but unless you want to go back to living totally off grid and in a cave, they are MUCH more secure than no VPN at all.

— @rubycat23

Most of the providers out there are owned by just a few parent companies. Many of them have hidden ownership and conflicting motivations. Many “no-logging” VPN companies have turned out to be doing the opposite.

You shouldn’t use a VPN if:

turn off the obnoxious music
izza makka mi krazy

— @JerryIngram-k9i

- You want to encrypt your traffic.

Most of your traffic is already encrypted because most common sites support HTTPS. Encrypting your DNS queries is becoming standard too in web browsers.

I’ve found the only way to truly achieve online privacy is to cut down my internet usage. I’ve gone more to physical media like DVDs, CDs, and books. Also, over-the-air TV and radio. If I need to stream something, I’ll use my computer with a good browser, ad blocking and privacy features, but not looking to get extreme yet. I’ve also left social media for the most part.

— @WheelImpressive

- You want to hide your identity.

There’s all kinds of other metadata in your network packets available to track you. Advanced actors can correlate them to track and discover your location.

is that the wrong thumbnail

— @ArsonPro864

There are some cases where using a VPN does make sense though.

- You want to mask your IP address.

I like your videos Cyberspatial

— @protox07

- Circumventing IP blocks to watch Netflix

- Getting around national firewalls

He is Chinese of course he’s going to convince you to not use a VPN so he could go back and tell his government next thing you know you have a $500 charge on your credit card. Do yourself a favor and get a VPN please

— @stevesoutlook2675

- Bypassing download limits

- Performing offensive security assessments

You are trying very hard to make this a boring video. Are you trying to use history to make your video longer to get more money?

— @DougHouston-y3n

- Conducting OSINT and research

If you do need a VPN, the best option is to do-it-yourself. Tunnel back to a home server. Set up a cloud server. Open-source software like Wireguard, Shadowsocks, and SSH makes this easy.

Ofc it's bs, i mean just look at the omnipresent ads and the prices, the service is literally worthless.

While a vpn may not be perfect for online privacy its still very useful using a vpn if done right. A vpn is a valuable tool. I use a vpn for many reasons such as torrenting to avoid isp throttling, getting around network blocks on my work and public wifi and even when im making throw away accounts. And if you combine a vpn with a browser like brave your even better. And a lot of vpn services now have stealth modes to hide that your even using one. I also use a location spoofing application on my phone which i highly recommend, they can be downloaded on the play store like any other app both free and paid.

#VPN #Privacy #Security

"security is not that complicated... just have dozens of unique passwords and emails all with caps, numbers, random symbols and Chinese characters, do not write them anywhere or store them anywhere and two step authorization so remembering all that shit won't matter because you lost your phone. and if that don't work limit social media, links, programs and maybe get a new mail address"
how about this... we all move to the Alaskan wilderness and burn all technology?

The government Cia CIA always have been monitoring society and the magority, there is no security on the world wide web, this is the world of illusion, hard to tell who or what is real, a world you are born into. AI overtime takes away the magoritys freedom, using the word threat and security. Politics ran by the dark Masons, men in suites and ties, to run the world. Everyone is Monitored, period, also using profiles on social media, be recorded.

You need to redo this video and make it easier to understand. You might as well have spoken Klingon for all the tech speak that most folks can't understand.
