I’m still watching my Zenith console tv from the 90’s.
Did you know your new Vizio TV now requires a Walmart account just to finish setup and access streaming? In this episode of the CableTV.com Podcast, hosts Nathan and Craig break down exactly what Walmart's Vizio acquisition really means for everyday TV buyers — and why your living room just became a retail advertising platform.
Walmart acquired Vizio in 2024 for $2.3 billion — not for the TVs, but for SmartCast, Vizio's powerful viewing data and ad-targeting system. Now, starting March 2026, new Vizio OS TVs require a Walmart account to unlock smart features, streaming apps, and even voice control. No account, no smart TV.
Ive basically used my phone for for years to shop, youtube, etc. I use my laptop for Netflix or other streaming apps I pay for. I try to avoid ads at all cost because they annoy me. Are these new tvs with ads just banners on the top while you are watching? I havent watched a network show in years, so do ads come up during regular normal shows like ads used to come up on old time tvs? Im confused lol. I hate ads and may forgo an expansion of my viewing systems in favor of peace.
📺 WHAT WE COVER:
00:00 – Intro: Why your Vizio TV now needs a Walmart login
i bought my new Vizio from amazon. I got a VIZIO 50-inch Quantum Pro 4K 120Hz QLED HDR10+ Smart TV with Dolby Vision, Active Full Array, 120hz with VRR for under 500. Now it list on amazon for 630. So I bought it at the right time. I use a desk top as my streaming device. S o i bypass all the "smart tv" apps. I don't even have the internet hook up to it. I don't know why more people do this.
01:15 – The Walmart–Vizio deal explained: $2.3B and what Walmart really bought
02:30 – Which Vizio TV models are affected (and could more follow?)
This is one more way to CONTROL everything you buy, you hear, you have no option. Your vehicle by next year will be controlled by the manufacturer. No more Ecno Lube! No more checking the air in your tires! This is how the manufacturers of everything will control what you see and what you buy from now on. Uncle Donnie is all part of this. Look at Tesla, Space X. Uncle Elon has complete control over the government and has received over 200 billion in contracts from the government already. With DOGE, he has direct access and control of what he wants. This isn't by mistake. It was by design.
03:45 – How Walmart uses your viewing data for "closed-loop" retail ads
05:00 – What happens to your existing Vizio account and settings
Listen up folks, this will eventually end in all TV requiring some sort of account! NOT FOR YOU, but for them to collect all sorts of personal data and information. Think, now they can see everything you do on that TV, what your buying, what sites you visit, your personal information etc. and NOTHING IS MENTIONED ABOUR SECURITY, SAFETY, AND SECURITY OF YOUR INFORMATION. AND, EVENTUALLY THIS CAN (OR WILL BE) S SURVALANCE TOOL USED BY THE GOVERNMENT. Big brother is watching!
06:00 – How this compares to Roku, Amazon Fire TV, and Google TV
07:00 – What to look for when buying your next smart TV
Boycotting Walmart, Theft by debit card..zzz
