I was a homeless prostitute living on Skid Row in Los Angeles. I couldn’t count how many times I was r*ped and many of those men were sadistic. I don’t even know how many times I barely escaped death and often cannot believe I made it out.

These acts happen every day to the most vulnerable. In fact, it was such commonplace that us women didn’t even console each other when hearing about yet another attack….instead we just asked for the description and any pertinent details so as to avoid the man.

Going to the police was never an option. They treated us like dirt and some were the very men who attacked us when they were off the clock.

I feel like one of the biggest issues is that people in general and the people who are supposed to help survivors have this idea that there is a “perfect victim.”

But there is not.

The women who survive this kind of trauma often do not have self-sovereignty. They are forced to do things they don’t want to do such as petty crime, trafficking other women, neglecting or allowing abolish to happen to their own children etc and may be suffering from severe PTSD or other serious mental health conditions that prevent them from reacting the in a manner that a “normal person” might. And sadly, when they finally do ask for help they are judged and treated unfairly.

It is nearly impossible for someone to understand the trauma a woman who is trafficked or repeatedly harmed in these ways and how that trauma affects them.

When you look in his eyes, you can feel the evil inside of him. Like demon level type stuff. I hope he has plenty of time in the prison justice system to be treated like he did the women in his life and those he encountered. Except they will keep him alive and keep torturing him hopefully, death is a reprieve from daily showers with a big black man who is gay for the stay.

Assault cases are rising because there are no meaningful consequences until an actual death occurs. There need to be consequences for these assaults before it gets to this level.

Before DNA testing was a thing, Monkey would've been convicted of this. If they had ruled him out, suspect number 2 would've been. We probably never would've seen suspect 3, let alone the actual killer. Scary to realize how easy it was to be wrongfully convicted
