I've never been to England, but am planning a trip next year. Sailing from New York on the QM2, five nights in London and taking the train to York for a day. I think I'm going to wish I had more time in York!

York, England is the most medieval city in the world. The city is filled with history around every corner and really makes you feel like you are in the heart of a medieval town. Historic castles, foreboding city walls, narrow cobblestoned paths, fascinating ruins, grand churches, and more await you in this enchanting North England city.
Well the title is not factually correct. York is nice, no doubt, but it's not the most medieval city. Just go into France and there are many really old, intact cities.
York’s story stretches back over two millenia and was founded by the Romans in 71AD. It was known as Eboracum and served as the capital of the Roman province of Britain inferior. The city played a crucial role in shaping England’s destiny during the medieval period, as it became a key Viking settlement known as Jorvic in the 9th century and most of the narrow streets are built on top of these ancient and medieval civilizations. York’s history is a tapestry of Roman, viking, medieval, and modern English influence making it a captivating destination for history lovers. Walking through York is quite literally walking back in time and will leave you feeling in complete awe.
This video will show you the best things to do and see in York, England. This travel vlog will show you how to experience this amazing medieval city. We will explore all of the sights that make York worth visiting. If you want to know what to do in York England see all of the sights in this video.
I spent five days in York last summer and could easily spend another three or four! If you go, make sure you visit the crypt museum under the Minster--no bodies, but it is a museum of Roman remains there and the huge bolts that were added in the 20th Century when the minster center tower started to sink. And don't forget a visit to Thomas the Baker's shop for morning hot sausage rolls and wonderful pastries!!
We Will Visit:
York City Gates

York Waterfront
St. Mary's Church
Only an American would film himself "pretending" to use a toilet and decide to 'share' it. If you think that's comical, you should know that in private, we describe American tourists as uncivilized, and with good reason.
The Shambles
Jorvik Viking Center
My Great Grandad (Fred Wright) owned The Black Swan in the early 1900's.
York City Walls
Stonegate
Great video, York is a gem, I feel blessed to live here
Barley Hall
York Minster
I spent the first 10 years of my life in York. Was a great place to be as a kid. So much history.
St. Mary's Abbey

I am restricted to being pushed in manual wheelchair by a able bodied human. I would not enjoy York, even though I was born in Sarpsborg, Norway!
Eastbourne, here I come 😂❤😂
7:46 "...quite literally transport you back in time." This guy, quite literally, doesn't understand the meaning of the word literally. Unless, of course, there is literally a time machine available at The Shambles. 😂
@rogerturleyIt’s a great place
@Lillipod1Geez, work on your microphones and sound editing. Sounds like you are filming through a 1990's camcorder. Try harder.
@chrisharrison277It’s not the most medieval city on earth ridiculous.
@ashleyupshall7641I totally...totally love this video, thank you! My daughter and I will be vacationing in England from Feb. 13th until Feb. 21st, 2026 for my birthday, and one of the places we will be visiting is York (can't wait). For both of us, there was a choice between going to either Manchester or York, and we chose York instead (don't regret it). Also, we will be visiting both Bath and Oxford too. Again thanks!♥
@phoenixgal2278My dream place to live
@LeeBlunt-k3byork is just the best+++++++++++++++++++
@pkd6369I visited this city in September 2025 I loved it

@نورهنور-ل7بفي مصر الف عام تسمي تاريخ مصر الحديث قصور ٧الف سنه قبل الميلاد حقيقي مصر عجوزه اوي
@نورهنور-ل7بYour pronunciation of Eboracum is a bit off. The city was also called Eofowic in between Eboracum and Jorvik.
@slartibartfast42Great video. Very helpful before my visit. Thankyou.
@tbrice97I live in York. Its a LONG way from being "the most mediaeval city in the world" but it is old and has a lot of old buildings along with the newer ones. I've seen several more mediaeval cities in Europe.
BTW its pronounced EE-bore-AHkum, not eb-OR-uhkum.
"York" is a contraction of "Yorvik" meaning "River Yor" in Norse. The river is called "Ure" today though the part of it below a few miles upstream of York is now called "Ouse".
I do feel this is a load of shit from someone that doesn't have s clue. I don't like leavening negative comments but this really is arse.
@ABTAMANGreat video
@GolfgtiguyAs a Canadian I always wanted to visit. I hope I can in the near future.
@ericstefko4852The music is unhelpful.
@dansaver009The Shambles is not medieval but early and Elizabethan Tudor in style, medieval dwellings were demolished around this period with the need to house ever growing populations of inhabitants who were growing more affluent and had families to support, this was the same for cities and towns all over England at this time in history.
@NortholtJohn3It's becoming the most Muslim town in the world.
@GastriXSleeveWhen in your Bettys tea room is a must!
@marcuslewis1890England is lost
@obxarms7685Wrong music
@ElGrandeSDI pray Britain survives.
@ingurlund9657SOLD!!! Thank You!!
@marksmith402I wouldnt mind moving here
@nathanpelfrey2278Why "York, England" ?
I'm pretty sure that 99.99999% of Americans know that this is not York, PA/South Carolina/Dakota/Nebraska/Alaska/Washington. (The 0.000001% being Donald Trump)
york is stunning BUT have you visited Edinburgh, prague, varanasai in india??? they are ancient cities that still have much of the original buildings
@gorbalsboyLovely city. Amazing history. Glad to see it still looks English (both in architecture and populace).
@benfaunce7496England and Europe are forgetting how much blood their forefather shed to route the muslim invaders from Europe. They often fought valiantly even when they were outnumbered and if it were not for them, Europe would have long before become an islamic empire. They are forgetting the blood of their forefathers by letting these pure evil called islam. Their forefather knew how evil Islam was but the current europeans act like Islam is like any other religion. Islam is not a religion its an evil empire that aims to enslave all nonislamic people, to annhilate them, rape their women and make them slaves thats what their ultimate aim is. Your forefathers knew it so they fought tooth and nail and routed these blood thirsty @@##$ from Europe forever but how foolish the europeans are vouching for islamic terrorists in Israel and around the world.
@1976athleticoThis is an insightful video. Unfortunately the captions are confusing. Example side seeing" was written "sing", fking lovers for "viking lovers". What about "must seat" instead of "a must see.."?
@maryhartzenberg8464You background music is too loud in your videos and very annoying.
@pratimputatunda9384I visited York for a week way back in 1997 and I still can remember the amazing feeling the city gave me all this time later. It made a huge impression on me. I was 28 so I wasn’t a child lol. It’s just that vibrant of a city and has such an incredible energy. It’s still one of my favorite places I’ve ever visited, and I’ve traveled extensively. It’s an absolutely beautiful city!
@randomheadful7190Thank you so much for the tour, my English ancestors came from York.
@Nana-vi4rdGreat video!!!!
Many thanks from Maricá, Brazil.❤️🙏
