10,000 Objections to Catholicism ANSWERED (Jimmy Akin) | Ep. 318

Video Overview & Insights

Today we discussed a BUNCH of objections to Catholicism ... I'll add a link or two under each topic if you want to do more research. Make sure you check out Jimmy's excellent podcast: https://sqpn.com/podcasts/jimmy-akins-mysterious-world/

Regarding hell... if we are to be reunited with our physical bodies at the end of the age, wouldn't this remedy the idea of hell being a physical place?

Check out the transcript of a recent talk Jimmy gave, Why Be Catholic: http://jimmyakin.com/why-be-catholic

Here's what we discussed:

1. Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary was always believed among Christians, in the Eastern Orthodoxy it's called Dorminion of Theotokos. Tradition is first, since without Tradition we wouldn't even have Scriptures set as the Bible.
2. WW2 was Catholic and Christian holocaust, especially the Polish, not purely Jewish holocaust - a propaganda pushed upon us by the enemies of Christ.

The biggest issue I’ve had is” praying”/ asking those in heaven to pray for us.

I believe they are still alive n Christ. I believe Paul says that. I don’t want uncomfortablity to keep me from joint the church.

1:10:00 Gosh, this was the end of a very drawn out exposition of the Protestant apology for why Natural Family Planning is an acceptable form of contraception.
Unfortunately, the strict Catholic stance is that this is also "wrong". The Catechism tells us not to wilfully interfere with the natural course of events, and John Paul II's encyclical on the matter explains in great spiritual depth why love making that ends in intercourse should always be open to the possibility of reproduction, for that is it's purpose in God's plan, and it leads to the most complete giving of one self to the other in that whole union of marriage.

In the Catholic Church, unfortunately, abstinence is the only way because sex has a different purpose than mere pleasure.

While this erstwhile fellow has deeply embraced his conversion, perhaps he learned some things in his Quaker upbringing that he has unknowingly failed to replace with Catholic teaching...

1:14:00 Need to explain here that the sole reason filioque was added was because it was necessary at the time to defeat a heresy that jesus was not truly God, not a Person of the Trinity as it was becoming understood. But heresy having been expunged, we haven't needed this word for hundreds of years and it would be very beneficial to replace it with the word acceptable to both sides and bring us one step closer.

(Mind you, we have far deeper divisions that cannot be resolved anytime soon, so this is just an easy one for folks to debate! The big one is we have a Pope and they refuse to have one, saying that ours has no mandate...)

"He brought down curses upon HIMSELF saying 'I tell you I do not know the man!' "

Where is Catholicism in bible?
Where is trinity in the bible?
Where is papacy in bible?
Where is Mary as mother of God ?

Jimmy Akin explaining this at greater length: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQ0RMarygLQ

The reason Christianity exists is because of Jesus the Christ not Catholicism whatever arguments,Roman Carholicism has wrong dictrunes of men imposed on bible verses.
Its notbiblically true that God is trinity
Jesus is God the son
and Holy Spirit is God the Spirit
The bible only mentions
God as the father
Jesus is our master and we are brethren.
Mary is most blessed woman but is never mither of God called Jesus.
This alone shows Roman Catholicism is covering false teaching.
Papa y,vatican..no where Jesus the madter said
Peter never mentions it.
Non of the apocryphal writtings ever mention Peter as first pope. All fabticatrd ny smart fellows to create a dominion over masses of people.
Just that trinity teaching has resulted in millions being misinformed .
So wxplain all you want but we need quotes if Jesus ftom gospels.
Traditions font count fir entering Gids kingdom.
Why Jesus nor the apostles later emphasise them,.?
Jesus says
Go and make disviples teach them whar i have cpmmanded you
This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached into the whole world as a testimony to the world...
You must be born again of the Spirit and water...
The father seeks for those who worship him in spirit and truth for he is Spirit.
If you continue in my words rhen you are my disciples indeed you shall know the truth and it will set you free.
If you Love me keep my words.
S new commandment..Love one another.
By this all men shall k ow your my disciples.
Non mentions becoming catholic and following church traditions.
Those pass away with time but the words of Jesus are spirit and life or life giving spirit.

- Moving the sabbath to Sunday?

https://www.catholic.com/magazine/print-edition/from-sabbath-to-sunday

Catholicism is a cult, It is a false religion, They misinterpret The scriptures. At 8:00 He said "Jesus made Peter The Rock that he was going to build the church" That is so totally wrong! The word Peter Is "Petros" In Greek, The word Rock is "Petra", Jesus was talking TO Peter, but not ABOUT Peter. Peter was NOT the first Pope, NOT the first vicar of Christ. And you don't pray to a dead woman Who isn't a virgin, Mary had six more kids after Jesus. My God, when are you Catholics going to Wake up!

- The Rosary is repetitious prayer and that's condemned.

You guys made me feel like I have been inspired when I heard Jimmy say he thinks of the prayers in the rosary as an attribution to Mother Mary at the foot of the Cross. I do the same thing and it intensifies the rich experience of the praying of the Holy Rosary. It’s nice to learn you are sharing an experience with the Holy Family with another Brother. 🙏🏼

Let Justin help you with the divinity of Christ issue, in which Justin's belief is that Jesus had a beginning:

Saint Justin Martyr (110-165)

Dialogue with Trypho

Translated by Alexander Roberts and James Donaldson

Chapter 60

Then Trypho said, “We do not perceive this from the passage quoted by you, but [only this], that it was an angel who appeared in the flame of fire, but God who conversed with Moses; so that there were really two persons in company with each other, an angel and God, that appeared in that vision.”

I again replied, “Even if this were so, my friends, that an angel and God were together in the vision seen by Moses, yet, as has already been proved to you by the passages previously quoted, it will not be the Creator of all things that is the God that said to Moses that He was the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, but it will be He who has been proved to you to have appeared to Abraham, ministering to the will of the Maker of all things, and likewise carrying into execution His counsel in the judgment of Sodom; so that, even though it be as you say, that there were two—an angel and God—he who has but the smallest intelligence will not venture to assert that the Maker and Father of all things, having left all supercelestial matters, was visible on a little portion of the earth.”

And Trypho said, “Since it has been previously proved that He who is called God and Lord, and appeared to Abraham, received from the Lord, who is in the heavens, that which He inflicted on the land of Sodom, even although an angel had accompanied the God who appeared to Moses, we shall perceive that the God who communed with Moses from the bush was not the Maker of all things, but He who has been shown to have manifested Himself to Abraham and to Isaac and to Jacob; who also is called and is perceived to be the Angel of God the Maker of all things, because He publishes to men the commands of the Father and Maker of all things.”

And I replied, “Now assuredly, Trypho, I shall show that, in the vision of Moses, this same One alone who is called an Angel, and who is God, appeared to and communed with Moses. For the Scripture says thus: ‘The Angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire from the bush; and he sees that the bush burns with fire, but the bush was not consumed. And Moses said, I will turn aside and see this great sight, for the bush is not burnt. And when the Lord saw that he is turning aside to behold, the Lord called to him out of the bush.’ In the same manner, therefore, in which the Scripture calls Him who appeared to Jacob in the dream an Angel, then [says] that the same Angel who appeared in the dream spoke to him, saying, ‘I am the God that appeared to thee when thou didst flee from the face of Esau thy brother;’ and [again] says that, in the judgment which befell Sodom in the days of Abraham, the Lord had inflicted the punishment of the Lord who [dwells] in the heavens;—even so here, the Scripture, in announcing that the Angel of the Lord appeared to Moses, and in afterwards declaring him to be Lord and God, speaks of the same One, whom it declares by the many testimonies already quoted to be minister to God, who is above the world, above whom there is no other [God].

Chapter 61

“I shall give you another testimony, my friends,” said I, “from the Scriptures, that God begat before all creatures a Beginning, [who was] a certain rational power [proceeding] from Himself, who is called by the Holy Spirit, now the Glory of the Lord, now the Son, again Wisdom, again an Angel, then God, and then Lord and Logos; and on another occasion He calls Himself Captain, when He appeared in human form to Joshua the son of Nave (Nun). For He can be called by all those names, since He ministers to the Father’s will, and since He was begotten of the Father by an act of will; just as we see happening among ourselves: for when we give out some word, we beget the word; yet not by abscission, so as to lessen the word [which remains] in us, when we give it out: and just as we see also happening in the case of a fire, which is not lessened when it has kindled [another], but remains the same; and that which has been kindled by it likewise appears to exist by itself, not diminishing that from which it was kindled. The Word of Wisdom, who is Himself this God begotten of the Father of all things, and Word, and Wisdom, and Power, and the Glory of the Begetter, will bear evidence to me, when He speaks by Solomon the following: ‘If I shall declare to you what happens daily, I shall call to mind events from everlasting, and review them. The Lord made me the beginning of His ways for His works. From everlasting He established me in the beginning, before He had made the earth, and before He had made the deeps, before the springs of the waters had issued forth, before the mountains had been established. Before all the hills He begets me. God made the country, and the desert, and the highest inhabited places under the sky. When He made ready the heavens, I was along with Him, and when He set up His throne on the winds: when He made the high clouds strong, and the springs of the deep safe, when He made the foundations of the earth, I was with Him arranging. I was that in which He rejoiced; daily and at all times I delighted in His countenance, because He delighted in the finishing of the habitable world, and delighted in the sons of men. Now, therefore, O son, hear me. Blessed is the man who shall listen to me, and the mortal who shall keep my ways, watching daily at my doors, observing the posts of my ingoings. For my outgoings are the outgoings of life, and [my] will has been prepared by the Lord. But they who sin against me, trespass against their own souls; and they who hate me love death.’

I am so grateful I'm a cradled Catholic. My family was never really religious. No Bible at home, just Catholic traditions like Christmas and Easter. All the sacraments obviously cause it used to be like a cultural thing in 90's Poland still. But it was never a topic of any discussion. But I remember there was a period of a few years in my childhood when we used to attend the Holy Mass on sundays and me and my sister attended a Mass for kids on fridays and I look at it as the most wholesome and safe period of my childhood. Then my mother convinced my father it wasn't worth it and it stopped. I ended up atheist for 10 years. I was miserable, depressed and nihilistic.

Now in my 40's I'm back to my faith and I cannot express how good it feels to be back on the Path. My soul has been almost crushed, yet going to church on sundays is like a safe island - I always look forward to it and take it seriously (in the Netherlands where I live the Mass is not as strict as I rember it from Poland). I pray every night and learn about my faith, things that my parents never learned me and never really knew. May God guide me.

I find the Mary thing hard to accept, I guess it's personal but from someone on the outside it seems many put her equal with Jesus and properly worship her and not simply venerate, I'd love to see church leaders remind the laity that she is lifted up and venerated but not equal with the Son as humans have a tenancy to go too far sometimes... I have began praying orthodox prayers that venerate the Mother of God in those prayers but with things like the rosary I struggle with addressing the Mother more than our Lord and saviour... I hope you understand what I'm saying and that it's not a major criticism as I am searching and open hearted.

58:12 Sex-abuse scandal

Since ALL true Believers are indwelled by GOD HIMSELF, and therefore have DIRECT ACCESS to GOD (Ephesians 2:18) -- and thus are NOW the Priests of GOD (1Peter 2:5,9) -- who are taught the Truth of GOD/Jesus by the Holy Spirit/GOD who indwells us (1John 2:27) -- LEADERS in the Church are ONLY to lead by their OWN EXAMPLE of strong faith and correct Biblical conduct -- THAT is how they "lead", by their own example -- the "Leaders" of the Church are NEVER to act as bosses/lords over the people of GOD -- telling us what to do and what to believe -- see 1Peter 5:3. The Roman hierarchy with their formal priesthood and a "pope/papa/father" and their private interpretation in their Catechism, is pagan heresy (Matthew 20:25-26) -- promoted by Pharisees that desperately want power over GOD's people -- Matthew 23

Sooo... YOU are saying that when JESUS said that God's people are NOT to have a man they call their spiritual "pope/papa/father" in Matthew 23:9 (1John 2:27), and when JESUS said that God's people are NOT to have one man acting as a "lord/boss/pope" with authority over the people of GOD, because that is the system of authority of the pagan gentile kingdoms in Matthew 20:25-26 (1Peter 5:3) -- what Jesus ACTUALLY meant was that God's people ARE to have a man they call their spiritual "pope/father" who has authority over all the people of GOD ???? 1:45:08 Random comment about death metal

Honoring the Sabbath is not the Mosaic Law, it’s God’s law. “God spoke all of these laws” to all who were with Moses. The people asked Moses to speak to God for them moving forwards because they were afraid. The 10 Commandments are God’s law (all laws given thereafter. Hence the “Mosaic law”). We are no longer bound to the law (required to keep for salvation), but it is still sin. Thou shall not murder is listed in the same 10 commandments as honor the sabbath. Murder is a sin and so is not honoring the Sabbath. Sin just separates us from God but does not damn our eternity because Jesus made us all righteous.

In the Gospel according to St. John, chapter 11, Lazarus was resuscitated; not resurrected. This is an important distinction, as Lazarus will die again. Although I enjoy Mr. Aiken , the lack of a formal theological education and training in ancient and biblical languages, can sometimes work against his accuracy in responding to important questions.

Atheists hate you, every other Christian hates you, Buddhists hate you, Pagans hate you, secular humanists hate you, journalists hate you, celebrities hate you, non-denominational cults hate you, politicians hate you, athletes hate you, hippies hate you, rock stars hate you, teachers hate you, the old man down the street hates you, Jews hate you, and even your priest really hates you if you're a good Catholic that actually knows the teachings of the Church.
