Does no-one abide by the 'when in Rome do as the Romans do' maxim? Why travel to a different country if you expect it to be the same as your own? Save your money and stay at home, especially if you think your culture should be the default everywhere else. Also, bear in mind, and I know this can be difficult to grasp for some, if you're travelling from the US and you are not from an indigenous tribe the cultures you are visiting have almost certainly been around for many centuries before you're own. It's unlikely yours is an improvement in their eyes.

a short search, i never realized, looks like there less or mostly not exist elevators going below ground level? hard to find pictures of elevators not end on *1 (idk what the star marker for but think it is a ground marker?) and wtf is there alltime a double number Means the Number on the button and next to the button?

in the Netherlands we don't have tapwater, we have drinkwater. It's more controlled (and better) than bottled water. And the European brands for bottled water (Evian, Sourcy, Spa, ...) are just filled with the local 'tapwater'....

If someone was talking on the phone, loudly enough to bother me to an extent that I would actually complain to them, and they were that rude to me, my typical reaction would be to take out my phone and start talking equally loud. I'm Danish.

I get the feeling the american talking on the phone on the beach was not the first one to get there. Just feels like she walked up to where the other one was on the beach either already speaking on the phone or started to soon after getting there... if thats the case then Im on the other persons side, why go up to someone whos already relaxing on the beach speaking on the phone when the beach is so empty, why go ruin her peace with your loud voice when you can choice to sit somewhere else?

I do not enjoy drinking that much. But if I drink I prefer fruity and often fizzy drinks, like cidre, lambrusco, kriek (which is cheey beer), framboise (raspberry flavored beer), or sweet stuff like dessert wine (like Sauternes (which will likely have some problems now with the fires in Bordeaux), Muscat, but also Port). I'm not much interested in liquor unless fruity (Limoncello, Cointreau or Gran Marnier or Arancello) I donot like tropical flovors in my liquor.

A big problem is that so many people are unconscious in their own behaviour. If you also understand that the opposite person is your mirror, some of the problems will not longer exist.

I think that one behaviour that really goes far to identify an American, and I mean this as respectfully as possible, is how they prioritise their experience.

They care solely about having a good time. They, themselves.
In many places in Europe, due consideration is given to how other people in your immediate vicinity are affected by your having a good time.

Basically, have a good time as long as your good time isn't giving someone else a bad time.

The USA have a notoriously individualist culture, and this can be a very good thing. I value individualism highly, myself.
But as with all things, it comes with baggage. In this case, a disregard for how others are impacted by the way you are enjoying yourself.

It is true that many of us in Europe can lean a bit too heavy into conformism at times, something that benefited our ancestors hundreds of years ago, but sometimes the fear of being a seen as a nuisance by others can be a good thing.

Many Americans lack this particular fear.

0 (Zero) is beginning of numbers, higher is positive, lover is negative, So ground floor is beginning of a building,1, 2,3..... floors are up and -1,-2, -3 ...... underground/basement. Also nobody calls Ground floor, zero floor, that's just in elevators although many have letter G instead.

In Norway groundfloor is always 1st floor, unless it's not. I lived in a 13 floor apartment building. Ground floor was only utilities, that building had a zero floor. We don't have a lot of those for the whole country.

Norwegian here. Common numbering in elevators: G, 2, 3, 4...etc.
If there is a basement: U, G, 2, 3...
If there are parking floors below ground: P2, P1, G, 2, 3....

Often the "G" button is colored green to highlight that that floor is where you exit the building.

Also when you have a home with two floors - you call them "First floor and second floor" whenever you reference them.

I never get ice for that reason. I'm paying for a drink not frozen water. Most soda machines have a cooling system anyway. Just not freezing cold. It saves the brain freeze lol. I live at the end of a 800 km waterpipe that supplies our Western Australian city. It arrives full of heavy metals. We mainly drink bottled water. The only Americans that have an inside voice are special forces because they use hand signals. Yes it is a public beach but if I paid for a chair to relax and then some American started talking loud on their phone then I'd be so tempted to shove the phone where the sun doesn't shine and I would not be afraid to tell them, however us Aussies are known to be straight forward and to the point.

Please someone tell the drunk woman that unless she has a Chinese passport or another official document that acknowledges her as a Chinese citizen, SHE IS NOT CHINESE. She might be of Chinese descent, but that doesn't necessarily grant you citizenship. That depends completely on the origin country and it's not an automatic thing most of the times.

From a personal stand-point (I'm Swedish) I can say that seeing my dad get drunk at parties, and stumble home, made me want to avoid alcohol as much as possible my entire life. I'm 42 now, and I can say that the only kind of alcohol that I've ever tasted and didn't hate straight away (and every time it's been in amounts that you would find encased in chocolate pralines) has been dark rum. But I would never ever want to have a glass of it.
