I'm a little late to the party but I just put a strip on the back of my TV and attatched an ESP8266 with WLED and it looks pretty cool. I managed to get it all powered by a single USB port so this bad boy is clean

If anyone is getting weird colors during blacks, try maxing out your contrast and lowering the brightness very low (start as low as possible). Sure it won't be bright, but there won't be an obvious constant orange/red light in the corner.
