How To Turn Off Shuffle Play On Spotify Without Premium (New Update 2025)

Video Overview & Insights

If you're using Spotify Free and frustrated by the shuffle play limitation, you're not alone. The latest Spotify update continues to restrict shuffle mode for most playlists and albums unless you have a Premium subscription. This video explains why you can't directly turn off shuffle on free accounts—and walks you through a workaround that actually lets you control playback for certain songs using local files.

ITS PREMIUNNNN

Normally, when you try to play a playlist in order on a free Spotify account, the shuffle icon appears green and active, meaning your playlist will play in random order. Tapping the shuffle button will prompt you to upgrade to Spotify Premium, and there's no built-in way to disable it for streaming content. Unfortunately, this is by design—Spotify uses this as an incentive to get users to upgrade.

However, the good news is that you *can* bypass the shuffle restriction when playing songs from your local files. Here’s how it works: open the Spotify app and tap your profile icon in the top left. Navigate to "Settings and Privacy," then scroll down to "Apps and Devices." From there, enable the toggle for "Local audio files." Once this is on, return to your Library, and you’ll see a new section labeled "Local Files."

If you’ve imported songs into your device's storage and granted Spotify permission, you’ll be able to play them through the app without shuffle restrictions. This means you can play, pause, skip, or repeat tracks however you like—just as you would with Premium, but limited to local music only.

This method is useful if you want full playback control for certain music without needing to pay for Spotify Premium.
