Software Engineering Versus Cyber Security in 2025

I'm currently working as a Software Engineer and planning to pursue my Master's in Cybersecurity. What do you think about it. is it a good move or a bad one?

I just graduated with a computer science degree, and I've been studying coding most of my time. I want to transition to the cybersecurity field instead. What are the certificates in order that you mentioned I should take as a somewhat beginner? Right now I'm planning to take the Google Cyber Certificate.

The reality is most people are not getting a Cybersecurity role as their first job. It can and has happened, but it is extremely rare. Certifications won’t get you hired, experience and skills will. Certifications are for bypassing HR, the technical manager isn’t going to care about it.

I'm now in the process of finishing my studies for the A+ now (no plans to sit for the exam though) and will then start on Sec+ next (will sit for that exam). People like Josh Madakor, you and others have provided such excellent free roadmaps and blueprints. You've confirmed a lot of what the top content creators, who are in the field, have been saying.

It would also be interesting to hear your thoughts on careers that are gateways to machine learning careers such as data analyst careers, data science careers and other generative AI career paths. Im doing a software engineering degree now (5 years im in my fourth year) and planning on doing an extra year of cybersecurity while working a job as a junior software engineer. Also planning on using this time to get some certificates for cybersecurity to make my chances easier in landing a job in cybersecurity along the way

Which field has more demand cyber security or software engineer

I was aiming for a cybersecurity degree but decided to pursue a software engineering degree, mainly because I think you can land several roles, not just as a software engineer, and if I combine the degree with a top-level cybersecurity certification, I can work in cybersecurity as well.

Im currently at a 2 year school and just beginning to take classes for my Cybersecurity diploma but I dont know if I need to get certifications on the side or not. I don't have a mentor so I'm just going off of tips and advise from YouTube.

And would it be a lot harder to get a remote role in cybersecurity vs software development?

I am currently torn between quitting my 48k plus 4k annual bonus (after taxes, benefits etc.) job to do the 7month full-stack bootcamp through Turing school of software and design (I got a 10k scholarship so the total price would be $15k,
or to keep my job and do a cyber security or software engineering BS through WGU? I'm going out of my mind.
Right now my bf pays all bills so my checks can go straight to savings
(I am dying for advice right now because my start date for Turing is approaching quickly)
