for Danish on netflix the subtitles being different are nice in a weird way for me as it forces my brain to think for a sec and go like aah, alternate ways and it gets fun noticing it but might just be for me
but it can also be frustrating sometimes, watching movies in english with danish subs has also been fun

I am beyond frustrated with trying to SPEAK in Korean. I've tried tutors, AI, shadowing, and it just is NOT working for me. I can read and write fairly well with little mistakes, but I now live in South Korea and my speaking is basically survival Korean. I'm hitting my head against that Beginner into Intermediate wall with speaking and have tried several methods to get over it and just cannot find one that works for me.

I try to learn English, French, Spanish, Thai, Swahili (although I'll probably quit that), Dutch, Japanese and Polish 😅
But I do another language every day. I'd never do two languages at the same day. Except for maybe French and Thai, but that's just because I work with these language in my job (I'm currently adapting a Thai language manual from French to German). The only time two (or three) languages cross is on my flashcards (because I do them bi-/trilingual; to passively learn the other languages). But I'm "actively" learning only one language per day

Loved this video! I've been studying French again for about a year with Duolingo. I know, that's not the best option to study, but it was a good way of getting back to French after I abandoned it many, many years ago 😅 so I'm relearning it by implementing also textbooks, exercises and other materials. I also want to learn Japanese. I thought I was too ambitious until I watched this video, so thank you! ❤

1:00 I've been studying japanese for 8 years but i'm still at N4 level because I study Aerospace engineering at university and have had little to no time to keep working on the language during these years. I kept forgetting words, kanjis and grammar rules and had to review a lot of things every time I decided to go back to study it. Now I'm trying to spend at least a few hours a week on it because it's so frustrating.

It's interesting that you say Norwegian is difficult... I found that a lot of the "grunnleggende" is extremely similar to English, or has a very simple rule that gets used in 95% of daily smoking speech. But of course, I lived there for a year and a half, so it was much easier to pick up the language than it would be for someone who hasn't had that opportunity.
Also on Anki, I agree: haven't really been able to get into it.. half of the people say you need to download an existing Deck and start studying from that.. the other half of people say you have to make everything from scratch... The first group says that's way too much effort... The second group says there's going to be a bunch of stuff in existing decks that you don't know or can't figure out how to study
It's so freaking confusing to me. I can definitely see it being useful. If I make my own deck and combine it with sentence, maybe I'll do that for German.

@exercisethoughtsanddiscussionsI’m currently actively learning Irish with a lot of immersion, I have group classes four days of the week and do self-study as well. Then I’m trying to get my level of Latin back before I move back to Germany because I’ll need it for my schooling. (And I’m also passively trying to maintain my German which might be one of my native languages but has not been my every day language in months and not my preferred language in years). Finally, I have Scottish Gaelic on maintenance mode, I basically only do Duolingo and listening now even though it used to be my focus. It’s simply less pressing than Irish (since I will need that for my career).
@BautzCatI've been studying English like my first opinion and Italian is my second option. It's so important to learn english, but I'm obsessed with learning Italian. I love this accent. I've been watching a lot videos about traveling or decorating. It's easy to watch vlogs or podcasts. I'm going to keep learning every day. I've been practicing to reach B2 in english and B1 in Italian. I want to be able to speak fluently theses languages.

I'm very interested in learning more, and this video is very inspiring even though I'm a beginner beginner. I want to learn Korean(I got a job offer in korea) japanese as I have passively picked it up a little bit from watching media and a friend who speaks a combo of japanese and english to me (it would be cool to chat with her in just japanese) and chinese both mandarin and cantonese as I have family/friends who speak but I'm unsure if it sparks joy for me, I traveled to 5 provinces in western side of china for 28 days, that was few years ago and while I was there picked up a little (fully immersed on the tour with only 2 other english speakers, but have since forgotten everything I learnt) I was complimented on repeating phrases back but couldn't speak as well as I could understand...
@EtherealHiraethThank you so much for this. I'm very much an aspiring polyglot but only really have any experience with Japanese so far. I'm so used to looking up information about language learning or how to learn more than one language, etc and getting so much negative feedback about how I am (or others are) not doing things the "right way". But I've also learned over the years a lot of what works for me. You are the first person I've seen talk about this that isn't pushing a specific method or being superior about learning methods. This is actually helpful advice that doesn't feel alienating!

Merci beaucoup pour ce vidéo! Oui je t’écris en français car mon anglais écris n’est pas assez bon😊. La régularité est la clé pour moi. Donc ça se résume à 15 à 30 minutes par jours. Dans mon cas, ma langue maternelle est le français et ma langue seconde est l’anglais que je lis et comprends très bien. Présentement j’apprends l’Espéranto et je vous le recommande fortement. C’est vraiment passionnant. En un mois d’étude, je ne suis pas encore capable de converser en espéranto mais j’arrive à comprendre une partie du message. Donc encore merci de partager tes astuces pour l’apprentissage des langues. Dankon kaj bonŝancon!

@ItsmeRena111One good, no-effort way I get input from my newest language (Bulgarian) is to listen to a Bulgarian video while I work out. I’ll turn on any random movie or show in the language and listen with AirPods. I don’t look at the screen at all. I’m an ultra-runner, and my phone is in a tight (no jiggle) pocket in the leg of my running shorts. I don’t worry about understanding the plot or anything. I just zone out and let the sounds enter my brain. I recognize more and more words and phrases all the time. It’s better than running with useless stuff in my ears. Ultra running requires HOURS of running some days. I’m glad I’m able to multitask while I run. So many languages, so little time! Best of luck to everyone learning a new language! We are all blessed to have been given this interest/hobby, the gift of a healthy brain, and lots of ways to study.
