Would Time Machine fall into this category? He travels to the future to find adults that act like innocent children being kept for the things in the caves to eat them.

Really, dragons? Fucking dragons causing the end of the world, what kind of drugs were the screenwriters were on when they made this stupid mess? Also most of those are really, really bad, extremely unrealistic to what this type of reality would look like, they don't even bother to do doom towns, silos, few remaining natural reserves and shanty towns among plutonium overrun planet Earth any sensible or logical at all in most of this, its just often single natural condition or climate or environment locked with what remains of humanity with some really cringe ideas, like humans depending on surviving for the rest of their lives in a train, like, what the heck!? Were are the overcrowded shelter homes, the spiking post-apocalyptic crime, the geographically locked zones that look like actual prison societies in the open, were is any of that?

City of Ember was good. Also The Colony.

@Microbiables

Great list, although I'd argue that Children of Mena and Hunger Games is more dystopian than they are post-apocalyptic.

As previously mentioned, John Wyndham's "Day of the Triffids" predated these (and likely inspired "28 Days Later"). And is anyone else intensely irritated by the background music overlay to this WatchMojo?

Just wanted to mention that 'Panem' is not pronounced like the airline, but like in 'panem et circenses', - which coincidentally is close to the concept of the series.

I AM LEGEND......what a crock of bs....it was a cheap spin off of the OMEGA MAN with charlton helston and all the remake did was destroy and make the will smith as a hero....i often wonder if his wife will do the remake of GI Jane in 2025 and Chris Rock as the master chief....
